Faults:

When purchased it needed a lot:

A rear seal.

Rear shocks.

Rear brakes

A rear window shock.

Some minor body work

New tires.

At about 163,000 it needed a new battery.

At about 164,000, it needed a ring job.

Also at about 164,000 it needed front brakes.

Also at about 164,000 it needed front shocks.

Unfortunately at 164,456 I blew a bearing in the crankshaft.

General Comments:

Over all this have been a wonderful truck to own!!

The seats are very confortable and the ride is excellent. I couldn't ask for anything more.

Unfortunatly, I decided to junk it because I didn't have the money to replace the engine.

If I had the money to fix this truck I would in a heart beat.

I loved this truck for the 1,500 miles I had it.

I loved it so much I have purchased a 1991 S-10 Pickup.

I think GM did an outstanding job designing this truck.

Faults:

Water pump needed to be replaced at about 35,000 miles.

Computer chip needed to be replaced at about 90,000 miles.

Now needs new clutch for the first time at 168,000 miles.

Oil pan has a small leak and probably should be replaced. Loses about 1 quart every 3-4 months.

Rubber weather stripping around doors has become hard and cracked in spots. Needs replacing.

General Comments:

I bought this truck new in 1989 (model 1990) when I entered the military and it's been my main transportation until this year.

I finally had to purchase another vehicle while this one is receiving a new clutch. Once it's done it will be my main ride once again.

Small engine has surprising power, even at 168,000 miles.

Very dependable.

Faults:

I replaced the battery cables.

Mine has the rust in the lower door panels, fenders, and cab corners common to the S-10s. Looks bad, but doesn't alter the usability.

General Comments:

A tough little truck with great power for it's size. I love the 4.3L engine. My last vehicle was an indestructible 1983 S-10 Blazer with the 2.8L engine that I drove for ten years and it was still running with 320000 miles on the original engine when I sold it. It's replacement had to be an S-10.

Stiff pickup suspension and narrow stance rule out fast cornering.

Gas pedal is uncomfortably close to the transmission hump.

Seats do not recline thus preventing the driver from taking advantage of the extra space of the extended cab. I plan to swap seats from a Blazer to correct this oversight.

Faults:

I installed a new starter at 54,000 miles.

I replaced all the steering and suspension parts front and rear.

Replaced all body mounts and engine mounts.

Rebuilt alternator to 160 amp.

Replaced front and rear you joints.

Replaced heater core.

Installed new condenser, evaporator, compressor, and retro fitted to r-134.

Repaired common rust spots. (Tailgate, bed under tailgate, cab corners)

New battery was installed, along with new and thicker ground and battery wires.

Oil pressure switch was replaced.

New exhaust from engine block to tail pipe, including O2 sensor.

Replaced door handle inside and out. Twice on drivers side once on passenger side.

I replaced the steering pump along with the pressure and return hoses.

Bad primer was used under my gunmetal paint from factory.

General Comments:

This the most reliable auto I have owned.

The torque is amazing at the wheels.

I beat it hard and it keeps going.

The cab is small for a 6'3" man, should of got extended cab.

Two thousand dollars well spent.

Faults:

I had to replace the TPS sensor and had a minor transmission fault that cost $160 to replace. Those were shortly after I took it through the mud.

General Comments:

The truck has power. It handles great in the mud and in the mountains. In 4 low it can go anywhere.

Faults:

Nothing, it's a great truck! But the seats have worn.

General Comments:

I hit a brick flower pot, and the truck still starts up and asks for more!

Faults:

Needed a new starter. Needed a new alternator. Those were the only 2 times the truck has not started on me.

Rust under the door and on the bottom of the extended cab were expected, but it hasn't gotten out of hand.

General Comments:

I sleep better knowing I have a vehicle I just beat the crap out of and it will still start like it just rolled off the line.

Cheap replacement body parts are a good thing.

I hate to be cliche, but the little thing really is like a rock.

I did drive it through a brick wall once. I might have well just spit on it. I haven't met a force yet that can stop my lil' rusty S10.
