Faults:

Clutch plate and release bearing heavily worn at purchase, replaced after 10,000 miles.

Replacement of clutch showed that the factory clutch had been replaced.

Non-factory 02 sensor replaced.

Gauge lights replaced.

Pittman and idler arms need replacing.

General Comments:

This car is apparently indestructible.

Removal/inspection of the transmission proved that the factory fluid was still in prime condition, and no cracks or leaks existed.

The 4.3 liter is a monster engine, considering that it is throttle body injected. It has great pulling power and compression, even after nearly 200,000 miles of mountain driving.

The four wheel drive is strong, and with the right tires, will take you anywhere.

This truck performs on the road as well. It has survived numerous cross-state trips with average speeds ranging from 70-105 mph.

Gas mileage is respectable for 263 cubic inches. Go easy on the throttle and you can get 20-23 mpg with ease on the open road.

General Motors makes solid vehicles, and I stand by that. If you can find an S-10 with the 4.3 and a manual transmission (5-speed) that has been well cared for, you can count on it being the best value for a light duty truck out there.

Faults:

Replaced all brake lines, steel and rubber.

Replaced all gas, air, and return lines from the gas tank up.

Replaced all CV joints.

Replaced Universal joints twice in one year.

Replaced water pump and thermostat.

Installed new gas tank because the factory one was rotted out.

Cracked dashboard allows the door of the glove box to pop out of place.

Mysterious wires are hanging out of the underside of the dashboard. (Previous owners replaced heater core and head unit, so this is not a factory issue.)

Heater fan speed selector is broken, and the High setting doesn't work at all.

Emergency brake handle broke off inside the cab.

Split back window used to leak, but it was fixed with some clear caulking.

Large hole in body over right, rear tire.

Reverse lights do not come on.

General Comments:

I bought this truck for $500, and since I replaced all the above mentioned things, it has been a very reliable mode of transportation. It does eat up gas, though.

Even though my suspension is on the verge of needing replaced, the truck still handles well.

Truck does not have tilt wheel, so steering takes some getting used to.

Faults:

I was going don the interstate, at bout 85 mph and I heard a noise and then I looked up and my front driver side wheel was up in the air. my alternator went out two days after I boutit, heater core went out clutch went I was going down the highway and my tail gate fell off, and lots more that I don't want to list.

General Comments:

Besides the stuff that's gone wrong with it it's a good truck takes off fast slow once it hits 65 but all in all if things don't go wrong with it it's a good truck, but I wouldn't, buy one again.

Faults:

The radiator sprung a leak at 154,000. The heater core blew out at 176,000. The The fuel pump died at 127,000 The previous owner serviced the manual transmission, and failed to tighten the drain plug. I installed a automatic 700r4 transmission.

General Comments:

This truck drives better than most cars as in cornering, acceleration, handling, and stopping. I took it on a trip with my 700 pound Harley in the back and still got 22 miles per gallon. The extended cab is a must for my wife and I, we are both tall.
