Faults:

The Service Engine light has been coming on frequently and the trouble code is always the same. Several different fixes have not made a difference.

Plastic inserts on armrests pop out frequently.

A/C compressor failed in May 2001 and cost over $800 to repair through an independent mechanic.

Tailgate cable broke in December 2002. I had to use a Dremel to cut it off in order to install a new cable. Most trucks have stronger means of supporting a tailgate.

Needed new gas cap in March 2003.

I have replaced both oxygen sensors twice. According to their manufacturer, they should last 100000 miles.

The elastic straps on the backs of the sun visors sag and are useless. The light up mirrors don't always work either.

The windshield wiper motor is failing. This was the object of a recent GM warranty extension, but my truck has too many miles and is too old to qualify. GM should know that a good portion of these trucks are outside the realm of warranty repair. Maybe that's why they were so willing to "extend" the warranty. This particular defect is very annoying and dangerous.

Passenger door hinges squeak no matter how I try to lubricate them.

Passenger side outer door handle is loose and there is no way to tighten it short of taking the door apart.

General Comments:

This truck has been very handy and fun to own most of the time. It has also been one of the most fuel efficient vehicles I have ever owned. However, as it gets older, little problems are cropping up and starting to become annoying. I'm tempted to sell it while it's behaving well. Also, thanks too many of GM's recent ads that feature animal cruelty, I will not be buying a new GM vehicle any time soon.

Faults:

Universal joint wore out at 36,700.

A/C system quit at 38,000 and has been serviced twice by the dealer. However, it failed within a month both times and still does not work.

The plug wires became unreliable and caused random misfires/plug fouling after about 43,000 miles.

The fuel sending unit failed at 52,000 miles and only registers 3/4 to full tank at all times. This has not not been fixed since the cost is absurd. I fill up the tank and reset the trip-meter since I get over 420miles to a tank.

The differential has always seeped oil and the water pump has a tiny trickle leak.

Lastly, I checked the rear brakes at 76,000 miles and they looked BRAND new??? I had it checked out and was told everything was working properly.

General Comments:

The engine is a little underpowered for the 19/22 gas mileage I routinely get.

The cabin is comfortable and well designed.

Overall, it has been a cheap reliable truck. It even got me places on three cylinders. Valve noise is starting to get loud at startup (79,000 miles) though.

Faults:

The belt on the engine broke two months after owning the vehicle. Alternator was replaced 2 days after my purchase, seller paid full price for repair. Service engine soon light comes on every time if I use the truck in Drive instead of Overdrive. Once hooked up to a computer it always reads different. Last time computer said the gas tank was not holding a vacum. Replaced gas cap.

General Comments:

I drove this truck for a little over a year, and put it through intense torture. I work off-road and drove this truck everyday off-road and was very pleased with it. The truck handles extremely good in off-road conditions and I was only stuck once. The inside is a little rough and loud. The engine in this vehicle is a great one and delivers more than enough power.
