1999 Chevrolet S-10 LS 2.2L

Summary:

This vehicle shows poor workmanship

Faults:

The seat adjustment handles have broken 4 times.

All the rubber has come loose.

The rear-end burned out at 26,000 miles.

The windshield wiper motor went out.

The washer motor went out.

The fuel injection doesn't work right.

The third door latch has been replaced twice.

The console busted.

The tires have to go every 8,000 miles because you can't seem to keep the front-end aligned.

Altogether the truck cost $26,000 and isn't worth 2 cents.

I feel it was cheaply and quickly made.

I will never purchase another S10.

With no warranty left repair bills are sky-rocketing, I'm really disappointed in this vehicle, I've been driving for 25 years and have owned G.M. or Chevrolet 20 years, but this one has changing my mind about the products.

General Comments:

The vehicle is poor quality.

The seats are uncomfortable.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

All that you have mentioned are common things that have gone bad. How would I know? I work in the service department at Chevy.

The seat recliner had to be replaced four times probably because you had not leaned forward before pulling the handle. Seat recliner broken at the handle.

All the rubber has come loose. Tires or weather-strips?

The rear probably had no gear lubrication to keep the gears cool.

I've seen the wiper module fail but not the motor. There was a recall that involved the replacement of the wiper module. The module's internal soldiering was not good and failed.

The PCM was probably the case for the fuel injection to not work right. Maybe there was a hole in the intake manifold, or a plug wire was defective from the factory.

I don't understand why the third door handle always breaks. This is common to it's weak design.

The seat console on 60/40 split bench seats will only break if you lean on it hard enough.

Suspension is not my area of work, but hard turns and going fast over speed bumps will throw the alignment out. The Truck was made to run the way it was made for, just like all the other S-10's that rolled of the same assembly line. But no two car or trucks will be the same. I have an S-10 of my own and I have taken very good care of it.

Some seals in the transmission went out at around 50,000 miles. The dealer fixed it under warranty.

The third door handle has broken twice, but it has been replaced by the dealer twice.

General Comments:

Overall, I feel that this truck is a good truck. It lacks in power when you have the 4 cylinder engine, but it can still tow my boat. It is a nice little truck for someone who wants a truck but doesn't want a huge vehicle.

This truck handles pretty well. The ride is just like any other truck... a little bumpy at times.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Your lack of power is not due to the 4 cylinder engine; more due to the automatic transmission. I don't currently own an S-10, but I've driven my fair share, and if you want the 4 cylinder to perform then you need the manual transmission. That's just how it is.

I have to agree with the last comment. I have a '99 S-10 with a manual transmission, and it has a good amount of power for a 4 cylinder.

So, let me get this straight... the transmission seals went out at 50,000 miles and a door handle has broken off twice on a vehicle with only 53,000 miles on it, yet you consider it a reliable vehicle? I just don't get it. The only thing I can figure is that you've owned some pretty unreliable vehicles in the past. Personally, I'd much rather have a used Volvo 940 turbo wagon for the same price. It's definitely a hell of a lot faster than any 4 cylinder powered pickup (especially automatic models), it's way safer, much more comfortable to drive, can town that boat of yours, carry a similar sized amount of cargo, and will not have transmission seals go out at 50,000 miles or door handles break off (sorry, but that part is pathetic). Considering that most everyone has the internet at home now, I highly recommend doing some serious research before buying your next new or used vehicle.

I have recently bought a 99 s-10 with a 4 cylinder. And I love my truck, I wouldn't trade it for anything. It handles nicely and just all around a good truck.

I bought a 2000 xtreme about a year ago, it also has a 2.2l, but I honestly don't think it is really that slow I think that it gets up a goes pretty quick for a 4 banger, I wish it was a stick, but that's OK, I still love it and would never give it up!!
