2001 Chevrolet S-10 LS 4 cylinder

Summary:

Good truck for the price

Faults:

No problems. The stock Tiger Paw tires looked almost like new with 20K miles on them.

General Comments:

My S-10 was the standard cab with 4 cylinder and five speed manual transmission. I bought it new. I drove the truck pretty hard with a lot of gas pedal to the metal because the small engine lacks power. I also exceeded the towing capacity several times towing a boat about 500 pounds above the towing capacity. I overloaded the bed a few times also. The truck handled the abuse very well for a cheap truck. It got about 16-20 miles per gallon depending on conditions. I have since moved up to a full size Chevy truck rated to handle the abuse that I give it.

2001 Chevrolet S-10 LS Extreme Vortec 4.3L 6 cylinder

Summary:

I love this truck, but I want more!

Faults:

Weather moldings on outside bottom of door windows do not stay in place and were warped. Have had this problem since I got the truck. Only second repair recently has seemed to fix the problem.

A/C compressor causes loss of 8hp when it shuts off every 20-30 seconds.

Seem to be having issues with acceleration. Sluggish performance with power transfer from engine and gear switching in transmission.

Third door squeaks. I had to purchase silicon lube, but it still doesn't feel right.

I am still not impressed with the speakers in Chevrolet products. I have never had factory speakers that could adequately handle the power/bass output of the factory head unit.

General Comments:

I really wish it had a bit more to give me in performance.

In some ways I would have to agree with the comment about the 2001 Chevy s-10 extreme. I own an all black 2001 s-10 extreme; extended cab, with a tonno cover, 3-inch drop, and I've taken all the decals off. I love the truck and feel like I'm on top of the world when I drive it. But it does feel sluggish, and at 60 thousand miles, a lot of stuff is starting to break. Not to mention that I live in an apartment complex and my truck seems to be a big target for getting broken into. I've already been robbed twice this month. Which brings my grand total to 6 times in the last two years.

My third door does not open anymore, because the handle broke. But none of this changes the fact that when my truck is all clean, all eyes are on me.

2001 Chevrolet S-10 2.2L

Summary:

A threat to lives

Faults:

Everything has gone wrong with this truck.

This vehicle has acute engine stall failure with no warnings.

The fuel gauge is inaccurate and irratic, causing problems in starting the vehicle.

General Comments:

Everything has gone wrong with this truck. Basically, it is a lemon.

For anyone who has the following problems, please check out the National Highway Traffic-Safety Administration website. For 2000-2001 you will be shocked at what you find!

My engine continually hesitates and stalls with no prior warning. I have almost been killed on various occasions (because of this problem!) on the highway and I am only 21 years old.

I have had it in numerous times to various Chevy dealerships. They repeatedly fix things that are not broken, charge me for diagnostics that don't diagnose, and prescribe parts for something that is not "sick."

After owning my truck for approx. 8 months, I have only proved to be a crash test dummy for Chevy/GM with no help from them.

Please, anyone and everyone looking into this vehicle, see the National Highway Traffic-Safety Administrations website first. It speaks for itself. Please do not let Chevy put your life in danger the way they have mine. They know the problem and are being investigated (since 9-02) but so far refuse to recall the problem. I could give you specific part numbers that can be used to at least fix the problem for another 80-90k miles. But why can't they?

Save lives Chevy/GM! We are innocent, are you?

I also have a 2001 S-10 with the 4 cylinder engine, I bought my truck in 2001 with 11,000 miles and so far I've not had any problems at all with it, it has been a terrific vehicle and it great on gas, I have had no problems with the gas hand or with the engine stalling out.
