1986 Chevrolet Scottsdale K10 350 5.7 liter V8
Summary:
My Scottsdale is a workhorse and a head turner.
Faults:
I bought the truck for $2500. I had to replace the tranny at 95,000 miles because it was hooked up wrong after the engine swap. I replaced the radiator and valve cover gaskets when they started leaking. Put on a newer chrome bumper and diamond plate bed-rails. Starts every time in the winter thanks to new manual choke and starter. Replaced U-joints in front stub axles and rear drive-shaft. New ball joints were also installed, but were a pain. Soon after had to swap rear end with a '90 suburban, while adding lift blocks & shocks to supplement the add-a-leaf lift. New rear brakes and lines were added. Switched exhaust from glass-packed to straight piped. Replaced fuel tank and fabricated my own straps for it. Most recently replaced the water pump after the seal blew. New dual inlet air cleaner and plugs boosted performance and mileage. I did every thing but the transmission. -Much time and money invested, but well worth it.
General Comments:
I love this truck. My first car and probably the best. I wouldn't trade my big brown beast for anything. There is nothing like hearing the mean roar of a 350 small block through straight pipes. The lift and 33" mud radials make it look just as mean as it sounds. Big and comfy inside, my one working speaker cranks it's heart out to compliment the custom exhaust sound system. With the ample power that the 350 V8 and 700R4 with overdrive tranny provides you, no job is too tough to get done. The steering is a little loose, though, making a rookie unable to keep her straight on a road. This truck has so much character and is one in a million. Everybody knows it's me when the Chevy 4x4 brown Scottsdale with a red bowtie on the front roars by. This truck is a tank and a mud king! It's been rear-ended twice without a scratch! The only downside I can think of is the gas mileage. It is always between 8-9 mpg.
