2001 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 LT 6.0

Summary:

Huge, safe, luxury with room for everyone, even the dog

Faults:

Well, There's something called "piston slap" and this rig has it in a big way. GM says it's "perfectly normal" and that it won't hurt a thing. When the engine is started from cold, it ticks so loud you'd think it was gonna blow! This ticking lasts for 20 - 30 seconds, then goes away...mostly. I took it to a Chevy dealer and ran it the next morning for them. They said it was normal, everything was OK. But I could barely hear him over the ticking noise in the engine. There is a website for this occurrence, and a few lawsuits. GM says they fixed the design problem for the 2004 models and up. If this is a problem for you, the only way to fix it is to go and get a 2004 or newer model! How nice.

General Comments:

Great looking rig. Spacious and well balanced. It's got most of the options, and is very comfortable. I love it when we tow the trailer with the family. It has lots of power. I feel very safe in it. The tow haul mode is great and I can keep an eye on the trans. temp. when under a load climing hills. It's the nicest Chevy I've ever owned. I can even pretend it has a diesel engine in the mornings too. Overall, if you have kids and they make friends, you'll be happy you have a suburban. Pretty tough on the pocketbook at fill-ups, I don't drive unless I need too because of that.

2001 Chevrolet Suburban LT 1500

Summary:

A very nice and affordable car for the size

Faults:

The car had one recall for the fuelline which had to have the fuel tank dropped to fix.

It also had one recall for the ABS brakes as well.

General Comments:

I love the car it is very comfortable and fully loaded with heated seats, lumbar support and all the nice things. It gets really good gas mileage as well considering we travel quite a bit. We went to North Carolina towing a 17 foot pop-up fully loaded car and trailer with kids and suit cases, coolers etc and we actually got 20 miles to the gallon on the highway. Gotta love that. But on average we get about 14-16 miles to the gallon so driving 50 miles a day for work round trip is not so bad. I would purchase another suburban even though I loved my Expedition I use to have. I think next time I would get the 2500 for towing reasons.

2001 Chevrolet Suburban LS 5.3L

Summary:

Worth the money

Faults:

Noisy pulley replaced 15000 miles.

Failed state safety inspection at 25300 miles because the rear brake rotors had rusted causing the parking brake not to hold. None of the pads, linings or rotors were worn out, but all were replaced. Not under warranty. I found many complaints of parking brake failure on the NHTSA web page. GM currently has no safety related recall for this problem.

General Comments:

This vehicle is powerful, comfortable and handles like a big car.

Highway gas mileage was acceptable on a recent trip of over 200 miles.

I just bought a 2000 Suburban 1500. The parking brake is shot. I will replace it myself. Not a hard job. I honestly don't care for the design of the one piece brake pad(s). Whatever, the parts are relatively cheap and it's not a hard job.

2001 Chevrolet Suburban XLT 6.0 V8

Summary:

A sex taste for the whole family

Faults:

Squeaky door when I bought it. One bumper was loose and so I got that fixed. The big thing ran down on fuel while on the road. It's too heavy on fuel. I think it has outrageous fuel consumption. I did not realize about that until I bought it. Next time I will check on that before buying any vehicle.

General Comments:

The big box is big and comfortable. I feel that it is just big enough for our whole entire family. It has big rims also. The engine sure is loud in the morning. I have had too many complains about the engine in the morning by nearby neighbors. I took it for an off road trip just recently and found out the real stuff that this big box on 4 wheels really has. It can really move over anything on its path. I love this boxy truck.

I have a 2000 chev. suburb. LT 4x4 with the 5.3 liter.. it is very roomy, smooth ride, and also very quiet, I almost don't know it is running. If it wasn't for the tach. I would think it wasn't running. My fuel mileage is 14mpg/city and 18mpg/highway. for a vehicle of such great size, comfort, and smoothness I feel that is pretty good. It also handles great in the parking lots. Chevrolet has done great things with it's turning radius. All and all I am very happy with it.

I once owned a dark blue 2001 Chevy Suburban LT 4x4. I purchased it new in 2001. It was an excellent vehicle. It handled very well, was very quiet, had an enormous amount of room, and it got a surprising 350 miles out of each tank of gas. Plus it looked great as well. I never had any problems with it, and when I sold it in 2005 (with 87,250 miles) it was still like a brand new vehicle.
