2001 Chevrolet Tracker LT 2.5L V6

Summary:

This off road vehicle is more than it looks

Faults:

I bought the Tracker for $1400 from people who did not know much about maintenance. I spent another $1500 repairing and replacing it (brakes, shocks, radiator, freon, radio). I came in well under the $4800 blue book price, and it has been my daily driver for a year.

I really dig this little truck. It has OK mileage and power, and I can out-jeep any stock jeep made since 1994. Once I put my lift and tires on, I expect to take this thing anywhere there is a road.

General Comments:

It is a trooper for getting to the campsite. Or to work. Whatever.

2001 Chevrolet Tracker 2.0

Summary:

Excellent vehicle when new but with the price of parts age makes a difference

Faults:

Air Conditioner was not working when I purchased vehicle.

Driver Side Door Handle Broke twice.

Back Door Handle would not work.

2 front springs broke.

Lower Driver side control arm broke.

Something to do with the part that the wheel nuts attach too broke.

General Comments:

Easy on gas, excellent in all weather.

Parts are extremely expensive and most are dearler parts so you cannot bye them elsewhere. (springs $136 each, ball joint $864, door handle $100)

I love this vehicle but cannot keep it because of the cost of repairs.

2001 Chevrolet Tracker

Faults:

No heat just a wire fell off. Fixed in about 30 seconds.

General Comments:

This is the best little 4 wheel drive I've ever had. Good on gas and will go anyplace.

I wish they would think about making them again.

I had the same problem with my heat. I don't know much about cars, fortunately when I purchased the vehicle at carmax in the heat of summer, I tested out EVERY component. They fixed it for free on the spot, I probably would have paid some mechanic $100 to plug that wire back in.

2001 Chevrolet Tracker Base 2dr Convertible 2.0L 4 cylinder

Summary:

Good car, especially for teenagers -- no speeding tickets in this thing!

Faults:

At approximately 67,000 miles, the oxygen sensor had to be replaced.

Around 69,000 miles, a plastic piece in the ignition broke and I had to get a new ignition switch. For a day or two, the key was STUCK in the ignition. But nothing serious.

Neither of these were expensive repairs; I guess that is one of the shrinking list of reasons it is good to have an American made car.

General Comments:

I bought this car used, so I have no previous knowledge of how it ran before 60,000 miles. But since I acquired the car, it has been pretty good to me.

It is fun to drive with the convertible top off, and it is pretty good on gas. I usually buy $10 a week, and that gets me through my hour's worth of commuting on weekdays.

The interior still looks really good, and the seats look brand new.

The passenger side window motor stopped working, I could probably get that fixed really easily; I just have chosen not to so far, since I don't roll down the windows that often. Not very fast, though.

The sad part is the Chevrolet Tracker isn't american at all, it's a Suzuki with a Chevy sticker glued to it.

2001 Chevrolet Tracker ZR2 V6

Summary:

Don't buy a GM -- lousy customer service

Faults:

Air conditioning.

Crack in the odometer plastic.

General Comments:

Overall, we're very happy with the car -- it's General Motors customer service and failure to stand behind their warranty that we have a problem with.

At 20,000 miles or so, the air conditioning stopped blowing cold air. Even though the car has a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty, they said that certain repairs aren't covered beyond 12,000. It doesn't say this anywhere in the warranty exclusions. Basically, GM pulled it out of the air.

The repair only cost us about $92, but it's a matter of principle.

We've been going back and forth with their so-called customer service. The best we've gotten is about a half dozen unreturned calls and three form letters.

Do yourself a favor: Stay away from GM products. If they wouldn't back their warranty on a $92 repair, imagine if something big had gone wrong?

Try a Kia Sportage or Hyundai Santa Fe. They warranty their product to 100,000 miles and actually stand behind it.

Well I think you must went to a BAD dealership because a few years ago I owned a Geo Metro and the dealership here fixed everything within the warranty. As far as Kia well they are nightmares and they don't stand behind the warranty all they say is that they can't find nothing wrong, and if they do find something they keep your car for months on end waiting to get parts in from korea.
