2004 Chevrolet Tracker ZR2 V6

Summary:

This little SUV still runs & shifts & handles like it always has, and is great in snow

Faults:

Black paint is completely destroyed by NM sun.

Right turn signal doesn't work - not bulb or flasher or smart switch assembly - we replaced all those. Dealer won't work on a car this old. Local shop couldn't fix it.

General Comments:

This little Chevy Tracker is great in snow.

Although the paint sucks and we have an intractable problem with the turn signal, the engine and transmission have given us no trouble.

It's not very comfortable on the highway. We don't take it on trips so it only has 107K. I drive it to my friend's house who lives on a dreadful rocky road - that is the car's main reason for being.

The headroom & legroom in front seat is good for my 6 foot husband. Rear seat, not so much. Carrying capacity isn't great.

We towed many motorcycles on our flatbed trailer because we had a motorcycle shop when we bought the car. It towed well.

2004 Chevrolet Tracker LT 4WD

Summary:

Great personal delivery truck! Great SUV!

Faults:

Not a lot of problems. Just the catalytic converter and the driver's and the driver's side passenger door handles broke.

General Comments:

The car has tons of cargo space, and we can cram a lot into it. We can do minor off road, and it is great for winter driving, because you can go into 4WD or 4WDL... No need for winter tires. Best car I ever had!

2004 Chevrolet Tracker LT V6

Summary:

Mediocre

Faults:

Driver exterior door handle broke.

Timing chain tensioner failed.

General Comments:

The Tracker has been an OK vehicle to date. It's ride is rather stiff, and the power of the V6 is underwhelming. It takes a lot of pedal to pass on a highway, and the vehicle seems to take forever to shift down. Crosswinds buffet the hell out of me on the highway, and while the 4x4 is nice, I worry what will happen if a good stiff cross wind hits me on an open and icy road.

Gas mileage is actually mediocre. I get about 500km per 60L tank, with most of my driving being highway.

The only real issue I have had is with the timing tensioner. The quote is $1500-2000 CAD to get this done. I noticed a strange ticking noise and the independent mechanic confirmed the tensioner. Parts are problematic it appears (at least for my mechanic), and the tensioner issue is a known problem.

I smoked a deer doing 100km/h, and the vehicle took it well (front left). The cost for body work was $4500 though.

I would not recommend this vehicle if you plan on driving a lot of highway. All city.. OK. Highway? Not for my wife or daughter.

On the upshot, the Trackers are relatively cheap, and I have had no other major issues less those given above.

2004 Chevrolet Tracker ZR2 2.5L V6

Summary:

Worth every penny

Faults:

Catalytic converter flange rusted out at 50,000KM.

Front stabilizer links rusted out at 54000KM.

General Comments:

Great little (and I mean little) SUV for my wife. Has had absolutely no problem on soft gravel or deep snow. Able to deal with tougher off road conditions than my Saturn Vue.

Made several long trips with an 18cuft carry box on the top before purchasing my Saturn Vue.

Haven't needed to tow anything, so I can't comment about that.

Reliable, with the usual wear and tear. Cost of the vehicle VERY low compared to the amount of use it has given us. As long as it still runs, we will keep it even as a small utility car.

2004 Chevrolet Tracker LT 4WD 2.5L V6

Summary:

You get more than your money's worth!

Faults:

Just normal wear and tear (brakes, tires, wipers, etc.). However, the exhaust system rusted away and needed to be replaced at about 55,000 miles, but other than that, it has been a very good vehicle.

General Comments:

When I bought this model, I wasn't expecting to like it nearly as much as I do. It's MPG is respectable at around 23-24 MPG, and I haven't gotten stuck in the snow yet. Although I could use a little more room at times, the Tracker has really put the "U" in SUV. I've used it for camping, moving boats and jet skis and putting them in and out of the water and pretty much every other use you can think of. In a nutshell, it has been a great car for my money.

2004 Chevrolet Tracker Four Door 2.0

Summary:

Wonderful Little SUV. Four cylinder engine is slow needs more power

Faults:

Nothing just normal items that need to be replaced brakes, wipers, tires etc..

General Comments:

I bought this suv very quickly and I didn't spend much time in it before I made the purchase. It has been wonderful as far as being reliable. The only thing that bothers me is the limited power from the four cylinder engine. It has a power button, but I don't know what its suppose to do because when I press it I can't tell that anything has happened. Its loaded with options and I got a great price on this little SUV I just wish it had more power.
