2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer LT 4.2

Summary:

When this Trailblazer is working, the ride is smooth

Faults:

My driver's seat assembly fell out.

AC went out.

Blower speed for AC went out.

The moon roof leaks.

Engine fan clutch is bad. Was quoted $1,200 and $988 in one week to repair the clutch. Was charged $125 twice for the same problem. Extended warranty is out and I have 66900 miles. This problem should be a recall.

I will consider a foreign vehicle next time.

General Comments:

This Trailblazer was OK, and within five years problems began to show. I do not want another SUV. Maybe I will try a crossover vehicle from a foreign country with a warranty of 100,000 miles including the drive train.

2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer LTZ

Summary:

More options than you need, built on junk engineering

Faults:

This truck is junk. Please everyone out there by listing your problems.

I bought this truck new, with every option. Immediately the A/C went; then the tail lights, then the fan clutch, then the gasket around the rear plate, then the brakes, then the front wheel bearings, and then the fuel pump. OMG, does GM think I am dumb?

General Comments:

Don't buy one.

2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT LT 4.2

Summary:

Fair

Faults:

Fan clutch was roaring when I got it and still is.

Mileage is horrible, I didn't realize what there problem was till I drove from KY to AZ towing a trailer. Figure it has cost me about $500 in gas already. Am going to hack the system rather than ante up to GM!!!

2003 Trailblazer EXT with 5.3 V engine. Fan clutch should have been replaced when roaring started. Price of after market fan clutch is about $130, and guaranteed for life of car. Replacement is about a 3-4 hour job, with common socket set and open end wrenches. Most difficult task is using large wrench to remove fan from water pump sheave (pulley). I replaced mine at 75,000 miles. and had to replace water pump at 95,000 miles, so wish I had done both at the same time. I replaced belts too. My gas mileage is 16-17 in city, and 20-21 on highway @ 65 MPH. No complaint for such a big heavy vehicle. My current mileage is 101,000. I use 5-30 synthetic oil, and change every 5-6 thousand miles. This is a good SUV, in my opinion.

2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT 6 cylinder

Summary:

I am surprised Chevy has such poor quality, and I am telling everyone about my experience!

Faults:

Tail lights out numerous times (low mileage failure covered under warranty). (recall)

Buttons an radio paint chipping off @ 20k (replaced once, had to fight to get it covered under the warranty, happened again.

Rotors warped at 20K (had to fight to get it covered under the warranty)

Rear tail gate license plate seal sucking in. (repaired under the warranty twice @ 20k) happened again!!

Left rear door window regulator failed @ 70k no warranty $450.00 to repair (This should be a GM recall only lasting 4 years... how often does the back window open?)

Dash cluster failure @ 75k. Fought with the dealership and customer service, local rep never called me back. Cost me $650.00 to make sure how fast I was going, recall on dash clusters on other Chevy SUV models but not Trailblazer??? (Dash cluster??? I didn't think within 5 years this would be a part that would have to be replaced.

Right rear door window regulator failed @ 100k, no warranty, $450.00 to repair (This should be a GM recall only lasting 4 years... how often does the back window open?) This sure looks like a pattern and should be a class action lawsuit!!

The cluster/speedo issue is well known by GM-so much so that it has been recalled in Silverados. Best to write to the company - I hear they may cover half - I just had the problem myself so we will see what happens.

So sorry for your luck. I have a 2003 XLT and the problems have been minor for 56,000 miles.

Back brake light fell out, and dealer fixed for free and checked it for recalls on second trip in for light.

At 87,000 miles I replaced #2 coil, spark plugs under $100.00 and for $16.00 a new air filter. Also cleaned the throttle body. Runs and everything works great.

The wife, kids and dogs love the room/4X4/smooth ride/the power for pulling, and the 4.2L is good on gas.
