1999 Chevrolet Venture LS V6

Summary:

Keep away from this vehicle

Faults:

Power windows broke after 3 years, after warranty period.

Idiot lights go on and off like a strobe light -Dealer can't fix.

Transmission trans cooler line blew @ 64k.

Head Gasket Blew at 65K.

Multiple problems with the brake lights & head lights not functioning properly.

Cruise control broke @ 55k.

General Comments:

Comfortable car, but it is riddled with problems. Either cheap parts or shoddy workmanship.

I actually would not even sell this on the open market as I would feel guilty selling it to someone. I would feel right trading it at a GM dealership except they have lost me as a customer.

I believe I am beginning to have a love/hate relationship with our 1999 Venture van. The van rides great and is very good for hauling kids. But, around 80,000 miles the manifold gasket developed a leak & the transmission solenoids went out. Around 95,000 miles I had to replace the radiator. Also, within days, I had to replace both rear wheel cylinders-leaking brake fluid. Today, approx. 105,000 miles, Transmission is shifting hard in all gears. Stopped van and turned off engine. When I restarted transmission shifted fine (will investigate further.) I find this odd since the transmission fluid and filter were changed when the solenoids were replaced. Please note: I had changed transmission fluid and filter at 50,000 miles. I have not experienced any electrical problems, but I purchased a stripped down model with manual doors and windows.

Summary:

Good value!

Faults:

Not too many things have gone wrong since we purchased our Venture. For one, the battery we had on her, was a dud, after 6 months it stopped, (replaced under warranty). and the next problem was, the coolant tank we cracked, and then the final problem, the line through which the coolant flows had a hole.

General Comments:

I like this van. It has plenty of power and is a very nice cruiser. But power, for example, 8 people, an ice-chest and luggage for all, going up to Big Bear, with no problem, there was no serious shifting of gears, it found its gear to get the job done, and it did it without "whining." I do trust this van, we've gone down to central Mexico TWICE in it, without any problems. Fuel economy, very nice as well. Being in LA, we can go from here to Vegas on ONE tank. and that's pretty good for a van!!!

1999 Chevrolet Venture LS

Summary:

Terrible Value

Faults:

This van has bee the biggest piece of junk I have ever had.

1. The transmission started slipping at 42000 the dealer said fixed the problem I don't think they even did anything to it.

2. The transmission again at 50000 this time they rebuilt the whole thing. Ran better for awhile, but still having slipping problems.

3. The sliding rear door failed to open or close. Had that fixed no problems after that.

4. The display module quit working at 55000 had to replace that. Now it leaks anytime it rains dealer said theres no reason it should leak.

5.Drivers side power lock quit working at 60000 haven't had fixed yet.

6. The air bag light started coming on at times at 40000 and never could find problem. At 65000 figured out it was a pretensioner had that repaired. Still comes on.

7. Now the check engine light is on and the car is knocking on cold starts.

General Comments:

This has been the worst running vehicle I have ever had the displeasure to own. Bought this car for a family vehicle and can't trust it to take my kids anywhere for fear it might break down.

I have owned four Chevy Ventures, and am very pleased with their performance. They get great gas mileage, have never had a transmission problem, nor any problems with the engine. All around great van.

All the problems I have read about must be driver related. I think they are great. I have one with 268564 miles on it and still going strong.
