1995 Chrysler Cirrus LX V6

Summary:

A decent vehicle.

Faults:

I had to have the brakes replaced recently, which ended up costing around $500 dollars.

The car sometimes shudders as it comes to a stop (though not a lot).

In cold weather, the car will not immediately start, it takes from 10-30 minutes to start.

The air conditioning went out/works intermittently (apparently all '95 Cirrus' have this problem).

General Comments:

This is my first American made car. It runs decently for one with so many miles (and in rough weather conditions).

It still accelerates very well and doesn't have any serious problems.

This car is pretty reliable and gets me where I need to go.

1995 Chrysler Cirrus LXI

Summary:

Nice looking but horrible in every other sense.

Faults:

Needed new brakes two times in the few years I've owned it.

Computer failed and needed to be replaced.

Distributor blew and needed to be replaced.

Fuses continually blew. Needed to be replaced.

Fuel filter had to be replaced.

Keyless entry remote broke for no reason. $100 to get a new one.

General Comments:

Good looks attracted me to this car. However, other than the cosmetics, this car has been problems from the day I purchased it.

It is very unreliable. Left me stranded 4 separate times. Each time needing to be towed to the dealer.

The costly repairs kept on coming and coming.

1995 Chrysler Cirrus LXi

Summary:

A beautiful piece of unreliable machinery.

Faults:

At 100,000 miles the transmission went out. Upon bringing the car to a mechanic, I was told that this transmission (which was put in several other cars manufactured by Daimler Chrysler) was notorious for going out. Was given an preliminary estimate of $1,200 to fix - it ended up costing $2,000 for a completely rebuilt transmission. The mechanic said it was too far gone to go any other route and it would be much more to replace it with a new one.

The factory CD player completely stops working from time to time. Sometimes it won't eject CD's. The radio changes stations spontaneously, and you can't make it stop. It's something internal -moving the dials doesn't help at all.

The leather on the seats is very hard and uncomfortable at best. It's definitely not a car to purchase if you're big on saving gas by not using the air conditioner. With these seats, an air conditioner on full blast is almost necessary.

General Comments:

The car is beautiful. It has outstanding class - especially the LXi models.

However, the overall performance is unreliable. The transmission went out for the second time while I was attempting to merge onto a very busy portion of I-85 - the car simply would not go. Being the parent of a toddler -I've decided this is not the car for us when it comes to reliability and safety.

You purchased this car with almost 100 thousand miles. Did the previous owner really take care of this car. I heard of this particular model car going up to 250 thousand miles before they have major problems. As a friend of mine once told me, when you buy a used car you are buying somebody elses problems.

1995 Chrysler Cirrus LXi 2.6

Summary:

I no longer feel safe driving this car

Faults:

Brakes grab and pull ending with total failure every 6 months.

ABS light and Brake light flicker, then brakes heat up and smoke.

General Comments:

Nice car, but mechanics from multiple dealerships cannot find the cause of brake problems.

I had the same problems with my cirrus. The brake light would go on and the brake pedal became hard like a rock. The mechanic said it was the ABS computer and that the part would cost 600 dollars alone. He also said that he couldn't guarantee that this would not happen again. What he did was disconnect the ABS. The car doesn't have this problem anymore. Also in the snow if you don't have a good set of tires this car will skid so be careful.

I am also having problems with my breaks to on my Chrysler Cirrus (1996 LX). And I was told it was most likely the caliper was sticking. The disconnecting the ABS caught my eye, because it does make very loud noises when I have to apply to it hard. And it will make my steering very loud for a few minutes after I've had to apply them to very hard. EX: you have to stop before you hit someone, type hard stop. And another example was the other day I stopped very hard, and I had to turn off my car and turn it back on because the car would not turn in a left direction.

Also, I am having to change the front brakes about every 6 months or less to.

Had the very same problem with my 95 Cirrus 2.5L. Turns out that the rear wheel cylinders and the brake master cylinder had to be replaced with new, updated parts.

Other problems that existed were hard starts, power windows not working intermittently, faulty ignition switch, ABS computer went dead, both ball joints and tie rods completely shot at 78000 miles, front windshield seal leaks, oxygen sensors dead at 75000 miles.

The engine and tranny seems fairly decent, but because of all the other problems, my conclusion is that this is one of the most unreliable cars I've ever owned, and I would NEVER purchase a domestic vehicle again.

I sold that junk and since bought a 2005 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE. Best car I ever owned.. Not ONE problem with it.
