1997 Chrysler Cirrus LXi 2.5L V6
Summary:
What a car, What a deal!
Faults:
After buying the car, we had to get new brakes. The dealership, Mike Murphy Ford, replaced the brakes for free... Thanks, Mike!
There is a minor transmission leak... We have been advised that it is really no big deal, and that "All old cars leak something."
Every once and a while, the tachometer and the odometer will decide to become inoperative. It still counts the miles, it is just not lit of a few miles.
One of the rear power windows is not functional, but oh, well.
General Comments:
A very comfortable car that has all controls at ones fingertips. We were wary after first buying the car, considering all of the miles. Little did I know, these 2.5 Mitsubishi engines are amazing. This car drives as if it just came out of the factory, and I drive it like that, too.
We have taken it on many road trips. Living in central Illinois, we have gone into Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, and Wisconsin. These trips are usually between 400 and 500 miles, round trip. Highway MPG is excellent on these trips, usually over 30 (Much better than the old 4-cyl Contour).
While helping a family member move out of college, I was able to explore all of its cargo space. This car is amazingly huge.
PLUS, do not even get me started on how comfortable this car is. Every road trip is a joy with the comfortable leather seats.
We got an excellent deal for this car. I would be able to trade it for what we bought it for, $2200.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I am looking at buying a 2000 Chrysler Cirrus LXi with the 2.5L V6 and automatic. I currently own a Ford Contour 2.0L I-4 with 5-speed. I get about 35 mpg average out of the Contour and was concerned about the possible drop with the Cirrus. You mention that you get better mileage with your Cirrus than you did with your Contour? The Cirrus seems to be a wonderful car, but with gas prices reaching $2.75 per gallon, fuel mileage is a major concern. What are some of you out there getting with your Cirrus?
