2002 Chrysler Concorde LXi 3.5 V6

Summary:

Most reliable car I've ever owned

Faults:

Transmission at 37,000 miles, repaired under warranty, replacement of torque shifter in 2011 for $400 at a local transmission shop.

Front caliper pistons @ 103,000 miles, DIY $50 in parts and a couple of hours of elbow grease and labor. Replaced pads and rotors at the time (about $120 in parts).

1 set of tire replacements since new.

Intermittent O2 codes, even after replacing the sensors twice DIY for $200 - the cost of 4 sensors @ 90,000 miles. Bought a code reader and I delete the codes before inspection, and do a drive cycle to reset. No impact in fuel mileage, averages 21-22 mpg daily driving and 27 mpg highway.

One set of spark plugs.

Normal flushes, oil, transmission, fuel line clean up, power steering and coolant @ 85,000 miles.

General Comments:

I've been leasing cars since 1994, and when by lease end I had never had to do anything but regular maintenance, I decided to purchase this baby, and still after 8 years, I don't regret it. Might have 8 years more of use before I get something with radical technology.

I've been tempted in the past few years to replace it with a Hyundai Azera, BMW 5 Series, a Mercedes C Class and recently with a Buick LaCrosse, and when I realized that I'm not gaining any additional benefit for the same or worse MPG, and having to spend from $30k-$40k, why even bother. I've had no car payments for many years, so the little maintenance in the past two years have been very reasonable. The car has everything I need, and it is very comfortable.

Maybe I would splurge on a new stereo to connect my iPod to - but I know the moment I put something extra in, it will cause its demise - so I'm sticking with books on CD from the local library for my daily 2 hour Atlanta commute.

I put about 15K miles per year, and used to replace my cars every 2 or 3 years.

2002 Chrysler Concorde LX 2.7

Summary:

Great Driving vehicle

Faults:

I have had the upper coolant housing leak. The belts and spark plugs have been changed once. The alternator had to be rebuilt a 245000.

General Comments:

Other than that this has been the best vehicle I have ever owned.

The spark plugs have only be changed once as the belts.

This vehicle I drive every day. I change the oil every 4000 to 5000 miles and use only Valvoline 10w40. I know there has been a lot of people having problem with the 2.7 engine which I think is using poor quality oils if sludging is the problem.

You're a lucky duckling with the 2.7liter not failing.

2002 Chrysler Concorde Lxi 3.5L V6

Summary:

The best car I have ever owned

Faults:

I have had literally no problems with this car and drive it daily for business. It has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. In terms of regular maintenance, the first set of brakes and rotors were replaced at 70,000 miles. A tie rod was replaced after damaging it going over a railroad crossing. No fault of the car, and no other damage.

General Comments:

This car has been super. It handles well, is extremely quick, and has superior handling on icy roads. I am disappointed that Chrysler changed it so much when they went to the new 300. My only complaint has been fuel mileage, which is no better than a small V-8. Other than that, this is a car that I will remember as one of my best. It's also a great looking car. One of my friends said it best when he looked at it parked next to a Buick LeSabre (which I owned prior to this). He pointed at the Concorde and said, "this is a jet plane --- that's a locomotive". Couldn't have said it better.

HaHa, that comment is great! My parents own a 2003 Concorde and it has never had a problem, I believe its currently at around 135K-ish because they travel quite often. I own a 2002 Intrepid ES and both of them still look much better than my grandparents Buick Lucerne, which I think is Hideous!

2002 Chrysler Concorde LXI 3.5

Faults:

So far this car has a perfect track record. No repairs required.

General Comments:

To my eyes, the 2002 is one beautifully styled car. I love the big character grille, the roof line and the rear end is a refreshing change from the norm.

The interior is huge with great leg room, good head room and wonderful seats. The trunk is a monster with 530 litres of cargo space.

The 3.5 V6 is a proven engine with more than enough power for normal city and highway driving.

Handling is above par and the cabin is very quiet.

My only disappointment is the stereo. The 6 stock speakers are a joke and if you're a true music fan they will need to be upgraded.

I'm hoping and praying that Chrysler stepped up there quality control in 2002. My last vehicle (95 LHS) became a total nightmare at 180,000 k's.
