1998 Chrysler Intrepid 2.7 Litre

Summary:

It is aptly named

Faults:

Shift Linkage Cable wore out at 110000Km.

Headlamp Lens material becomes opaque after 100000Km.

On battery number three after 130000Km and possibly five over the life of the vehicle to date.

Sounds and feels like a new throttle pedal cable is due.

Began to stall and not start in cold weather at 230000Km

Dropped and cleaned fuel tank, new pump and filter at 230000Km, changed battery and now I think that it is the choke.

General Comments:

I bought it for its curb appeal, but was suprised by its roominess and comfort at speed.

It is professionally maintained and I run synthetic oil which is changed every 12000Km or less, depending on the weather. Full engine flush every 36000Km plus transmission fluid/filter changes 48000Km.

Speed rated, wide track radial tires give it good looks and add to the rate at which you can corner. I regularly spend hours at a time at 140Km Hr and have become good friends with the governer set at 198. Above 130 you begin to feel the car hugging the road and this increases with speed, making for a very comfortable, sure-footed ride.

Above 2600 Rpm, up to its red line just below 7000, the engine pulls well and the automatic transmission shifting up is quick and will lay you back in your seat.

Car is dead quiet at idle, even standing at the hood, but winds out like my motorcycle with a couple of extra cylinders.

1998 Chrysler Intrepid 2.7

Summary:

It sure is pretty and that's about it!

Faults:

- EGR valve (caused rough idling)

- Sixth fuel injector (stalling, rough idling)

- Battery.

- Crank censor (car wouldn't start after long commutes)

- Left Ball Joint (too much play... could of been tragic)

- Radiator (very unexpected... had to replace the whole rad plus rad cap)

- Brake pads, and rotars (cheap pads on old rotars when I bought it)

- Intake gaskets and rings around fuel injectors (caused a vacuum seal leak and to much moisture)

- Now the head gasket possibly, but the problem had mysteriously stopped??

General Comments:

This is only my second car, but the first I have bought on my own and I can't help, but feel that the people that sold it to me saw me coming lol! Other than all the problems with the engine (which is the 2nd one) my car is pretty reliable. It always gets me to where I have to be before it decides to break down lol!

1998 Chrysler Intrepid 2.7L

Summary:

Worst car I ever owned

Faults:

If you are about to buy one... the base 2.7 engine is not good.

I replaced the alternator twice, a month after buying it and at the end of last year... maybe that's a record, the starter, try finding the battery, the thermostat housing is plastic and due to be replaced for the second time, replaced the timing chain, have spent 3000.00 in the past 12 months.

I recently went to the local car show in our area, guess what stand I would not set foot on.. OK I`m a little jaded, but the good news is as of last week, it's someone else headache.

General Comments:

Comfortable cruiser, but absorbs other outside noises, so you think the noise is coming from the car.. scary.

1998 Chrysler Intrepid LX 6 cylinder

Summary:

This Intrepid is best dollar-for dollar car I ever owned. I've owned 23 vehicles

Faults:

The windows stick in hot weather.

General Comments:

This is an exceptionally luxurious vehicle. Economy is great and it still looks like a new car. It is great on long trips and affords comforts I'd expect on a much more expensive car.

I have never kept a car this long, but I simply can't justify trading it just yet.

Since buying it, I also purchased a Dodge Ram V-10 and a PT Cruiser.

To the owner of this car, have you done anything special to make your car last THAT much longer?
