Roomy, dependable, kick in the pants Turbo car

1988 Chrysler LeBaron gtc 2.2 turbo

Summary:

High performance money pit with fun

Faults:

OK first, in the next 10 minutes I got the car out of the dealer the check engine light started flashing.

2 days after my battery was down.

My starter got wrecked and the front left tire got out of air.

My fuel pump started up juicing all over the highway 1 week after I got it.

My power steering pump explode and noises and black fume got out of the hood.

I never see a suspension so hard and broken in my life.

My brake fluid pump juiced up all over my driveway so I got it repaired.

My cassette player did not cooperate in the operation of eject so I had to pull out the tapes with my keys at least 7 times a day.

When I got the car, there was no muffler so the noise was big, but, I liked that.

The radiator did not start so my engine got pretty hot sometimes, so more repairs...

And I almost forgot the 3 inches of rust under the car and the paint that was getting off.

General Comments:

In less word, this car is a money pit, repairs after repairs after repairs.

But I got it for 800$ so I knew what I was going up against.

In any ways, this car is so fun to drive because you know that something is going to broke real soon anyway so you beat the car.

The 2.2 turbo was powerful, and I had so much fun with this car you cannot imagine how.

But words for words, don't buy this car unless for scrap it or kill your selfs because it can be pretty dangerous.

I drove it 3 months without breaks, well at least not good brakes, I had to break like 10 seconds in advance every time, but it makes you drive more safely too.

So this is a bad fun car.

I enjoyed it, but nearly killed myself 3 or 4 times so drive safely. IROC-Z.

1988 Chrysler LeBaron 2.5 turbo

Summary:

I wouldn't be surprised if you see these at conventions in 25 years

Faults:

It was sitting for a year so the top was a little sun worn and the rear window browned.

There was a bearing in the strut that need replacing, but the previous owner never mentioned it had a crack in the axle's joint.

I went too fast over a speed bump and broke the exhaust pipe and cracked the gas tank.

General Comments:

I knew it need some work when I bought it and now that every things fixed I can safely say it's a great car.

Its got a nice classic car look with a touch of luxury. Its 13 years old and only has a few minor scratches on the doors and a small impression from some punk sitting on it.

The engine sputters sometimes when its left to idle. Not sure whether its cheap spark plugs or a dirty fuel injector.

The interior is near mint. Only a few water spots on the roof.

It's a little high in maintenance (only premium gas at about 20 MPG and oil changes every 2,000 miles) but its fun to drive, especially in the summer.

1988 Chrysler LeBaron GTS 2.0 turbo

Summary:

Very nice for a first car

Faults:

Replaced the alternator.

Replaced three belts.

Replaced spark plugs.

General Comments:

It idles fairly high.

This car hasn't been run in 2 years and has just sat there, so all of this had to have been replaced since it was all original parts.

No such thing as a 2.0 in a Lebaron.. they are either 2.2 or 2.5.. and for a 150hp family sedan they sure move!
