1994 Chrysler LHS 3.5L V6

Summary:

Honestly, a piece of junk that people should avoid

Faults:

Chronic air conditioning problems, resulting in repairs every year. Fuel rail was replaced twice. Blower motor was replaced. Currently, transmission is being completely overhauled at a cost of $1000 to $1600. Numerous interior rattles that they can't seem to get rid of. The Infinity premium sound system blew out at 40,000 miles and would cost $800-1000 to replace. It never lived up to is "premium" billing either. The sound was quite poor. I wouldn't buy this car, and will sell it as soon at the transmission is fixed. The other problem I wish to avoid: common water pump problem that takes out the timing belt when the pump goes. I will sell it before this happens.

General Comments:

Though this car drives well, and the recent transmission trouble is the only major engine/drive train trouble, my conclusion after owning this car for 5 years is that Chrysler doesn't know how to put a vehicle together. This was their top of the line, luxury vehicle that went for $30,000 new. When you pay that much you shouldn't have to put up with so many body rattles. This car has been well cared for, but is more trouble than its worth.

I AGREE and am very troubled why a company such as CHRYSLER can sell such a piece of JUNK. I have an Eagle 95/Vision - same thing, won't run, $6000.00 in repairs and the car still won't get me to work and back. It stalls and dies.

The motor was completely rebuilt 2 times in a 1 month time period and the valve body and torque convertor replaced. From fuel rails to o-rings to head gaskets to all the electrical components /fuel pump... whatever short of a new car. I've bought it, as each Chrysler/Jeep Dealer thought what was the problem... it turned out it still has all the same problems and no one can help. Why can Dodge/Chrysler do this to the American public, I will never know. Thanks. Don't buy a DODGE/CHRYSLER ever.

1994 Chrysler LHS 4-STD 3.5

Summary:

A 40 something kind of car!

Faults:

Alarm remote reprogram.

Headlight bulb.

General Comments:

Chose the LHS over a 93 Dyn. So far, it seems like a nice solid car that was taken car of. However, it appears to need the rotors turned, when it's cold and you turn the steering wheel while sitting still, it pops a few times.

Sometimes, the moon roof motor won't stop running when opening the roof. A tap on the switch cures this.

I bought the car from a Dodge dealer. They fixed (free) any issues I had. I did get a next to best DCX extended warranty. I also own a 93 Plymouth Voyager (bought new). If the LHS is as reliable as my minivan, then I made a good choice for a second car.

1994 Chrysler LHS 3.5 24 valve V6

Summary:

A great luxury car with reliability

Faults:

Sun roof has a problem, 50% of the time it opens when you turn off the car, so during the winter I take out the fuse.

Tranny is not very smooth, probably original tranny.

Acquired a bad piston head in the motor, causing a loss of compression, making the car run bad when it is first started up on winter mornings (it stays outside).

When it warms up, it runs great.

General Comments:

I like the car, I wish I had much, much less miles, it doesn't have as much speed as it used to.

It always starts. Yeah!

1994 Chrysler LHS Fifth Avenue Edition 3.5

Summary:

I wouldn't own another LHS or any newer cars since parts and servicing are so expensive

Faults:

Bought the car from a small used car dealer and two days later the engine would stall whenever it warmed up. The dealer I bought it off would not take care of the problem even though it was under warranty.

I later found it was not a manufacturer fault, but that someone had changed the spark plugs and incorrectly gapped them, resulting in engine overheating and the sensors going bad.

General Comments:

Nice and roomy, like my '88 Fifth Avenue, but the ride wasn't as smooth and it was noisier too.

Great sound system.

Fast acceleration was a plus.

I took a personal loan out to buy the car, but counldn't afford to pay for the repairs, so I traded it in on an older car.

1994 Chrysler LHS 3.3

Faults:

AC went out @ 50k under warranty.

Power control module went out @ 55000 - $750.

Started experiencing transmission problems @ 85000, told I need new tranny - $1700 est.

Right front wheel bearing went out and engine light comes on for no apparent reason.

General Comments:

Like the ride, can't afford the maintenance.

For all of you that experienced tranny problems, what are the typical symptoms? We just bought a one (private) owner used 94 LHS for our son's first car. Cost was reasonable since he paid an equal share. Vehicle has 117K miles (mostly from 6-7 trips to FL for the winters). Everything seems to be working fairly well less a low idle shake (idles at 600 RPMs) and the trans roars/rumbles upon acceleration (I don't think it's the exhaust...isn't this car supposed to be quiet?)...noise could be coming from the engine too, but we have nothing to compare to since we have not driven this vehicle new.

Is this normal? What do we have in store for us? BTW, we do plan on getting a good tune-up done that should take care of the idle situation.

1994 Chrysler LHS

Faults:

The transmission is running rough at around 35mph. Problems ahead? The air conditioner has needed to be repaired due to a leak at approx. 30,000 miles.

General Comments:

The general design of the car is poor for visibility. I have backed into things twice due to poor rear and side vision. The car has a large blind spot.
