2000 Chrysler Neon LE 2.0

Summary:

I love my Neon, my wife is jealous

Faults:

There is no caster camber alignment in this car.

Engine drives rough at low speed and cold weather.

General Comments:

Awesome design and remarkable achievement of the Chrysler Neon.

The shape of the car has been copied by lots of later models of other companies; even the 2012 Civic tail lights look the same.

This car, you can compare to a Civic, and it beats the other sedans of the year.

Good, economical, small car.

It never bothered me, except I bother the car.

Engine and transmission still work fine after 240 clicks.

Good on the highway and designed to cruise.. Love it.

2000 Chrysler Neon SE 2.0

Summary:

It gets me to work and back without breaking down

Faults:

General maintenance.

General Comments:

The Chrysler Neon is a basic 4 door sedan.

It's very economical, uncomfortable if you sit in the front seats, but what car isn't after a long road trip.

I often recommend cars to my friends. I'm a mechanic and car enthusiast and have owned lots of domestics and a few imports.

Based on my experience with a Chrysler sub-compact (nearly a quarter million trouble-free miles), I recommended a Neon to a handicapped friend of mine who had had nightmarish experiences with his Japanese import.

He bought the car (a 2002 model) new and it currently has over 120,000 miles on it without a single problem. He often neglects the scheduled maintenance and uses very cheap non-synthetic oil. In spite of this abuse the car has proven to be totally reliable in every respect.

These are some of the most under-rated cars on the planet. They are a far better buy than most imports.

2000 Chrysler Neon LE Sport 2.0

Summary:

I like this car

Faults:

There was a short in my brake lights, and I found the problem was the clutch, when depressed, wore out the wires that came from my brake pedal, and were causing the fuse for my brake lights to blow.

I was unaware of this problem for the first six months of owning my car, and it took another month to figure out where the short was. I suspect this is not an isolated incident, and there may be more people on the road without brake lights.

The power steering rack is leaking. This is not a serious problem, but it costs about $1000.00 to fix.

I had my rear brake cylinders replaced at 91000 km. This cost me $450.00.

When the engine is cold, my valves make a tapping sound. Once the engine is warm, the sound disappears.

The brake cylinders cost me $40 for a pair, and I replaced both and bled the system in just under an hour, because it's an easy job; the car reminds me of a go cart! So... you need a new mechanic my friend; even if they marked your parts up 60 bucks and charged you $100/hr, that's still only $200 bucks!!!

2000 Chrysler Neon LE 2.0L

Summary:

The true value exceeded the price

Faults:

1. Rear brake pin sheared in 2004.

2. Interior "rattle"developed over the last few years.

General Comments:

1. Reliability: For a car purchased as a base model LE, it has exceeded expectations for longevity and toughness. A solid little machine, it handles well on unpaved and paved roads with no punishment to the passengers.

2. Performance: A fairly quick car, the 4 Cyl engine is more than what is required for the light frame in order to perform in the city and highway.

3. Interior: Comfortable, functional, but noisy and prone to rattle in its later years. Also, to no surprise... it is a little tight for those riding in the back.

2000 Chrysler Neon LE 2.0

Summary:

Reliable, cheap to maintain, and am getting another

Faults:

Replaced radiator at 170000.

Rear struts at 100000.

Rear wheel bearing at 180000.

Rear main oil seal at 189000.

General Comments:

For the price, it's good value, and has a very comfy ride for a small car.

Repairs are cheap compared to imports.

Has been a great car regular maintenance is a key.

I live in PEI Canada where winter is always a challenge; cold and lots of snow. The car has never failed me even on the coldest days.

I am buying a 2002 Neon and giving this one to my daughter going to college.

I also tow a small camper no problem.
