2006 Chrysler Pacifica Base

Summary:

Feels spacious, but a bit of a money pit of repairs

Faults:

At roughly 70K miles my transmission was done. Had to replace that for 3 grand. A bummer, being that I hadn't had the car for that long at that point.

Slammed on my brakes to avoid an accident. I was going 30 MPH when a person pulled out in front of me. I didn't hit her, but it broke my drive train housing. Being that the drive train box is connected to the transmission as a whole unit, it had to be replaced. i.e. the entire drive train. So that was another couple of grand. At this point I'd had the car for 6 months.

Whatever you do, change the oil religiously! This car burns through oil. If I'm driving my car to and from work only (a 30 minute drive), I can usually make the oil last until the next time it's due. If I do anything else, I'm usually adding another pint of oil to my car before my next change. There aren't any leaks; I've had 3 different mechanics check this for me.

My main mechanic, whom I trust and love, told me that the transmission/drive train seems to be the weak point in this car. When he does work on them, it's usually for those issues. My luck that they are expensive issues.

Since I've had this car (4 years now), roughly every 6 months I'm replacing something else. I'm over it and can't wait to get a different car.

General Comments:

The interior is great! Very spacious. We take this car camping all the time. We can easily fit our dogs (English mastiff and Australian shepherd) plus all our camping gear. We don't pack lightly either. Don't expect to be hauling anything though. The engine has just enough power to load up the car and take on mountain roads.

The seats are all very comfortable. The driver's seat has all the buttons you would ever need within your reach. I love that I can do mostly everything from the steering wheel.

The car feels very safe and stable. I got this car due to its high crash testing rating.

All around inside, a great family / crossover car, minus the pricey engine fixes.

2006 Chrysler Pacifica Touring 3.5

Summary:

Reliable and comfortable

Faults:

This vehicle has done very well.

Engine light came on at 56000. Warranty replaced the oxygen sensor in exhaust.

The front passenger heated leather seat did not heat as expected, but warranty took care of this immediately.

The other 3 heated seats worked great.

General Comments:

You can tell this car was designed by Mercedes. The interior is very well laid out and luxurious.

The 3.5 engine does not have the power I would like. I should have gone with the 3.8 engine. It does equal better fuel mileages. Average is 19 miles per gallon with the 3.5.

The car handles and drives very well.

Routine maintenance is all that has been done. It has been very reliable.

It has enough room for 6 people, no problem.

The rear seats fold down easily.

The All Wheel Drive works great. No problems in the rain or snow.

We still own this vehicle, and it continues to be one of the best vehicles we have ever purchased. We now have 90,000 miles on the car with no problems at all.

Well we traded this car in. It has just over 100,000 miles, and it has been a perfect car to own.

No troubles, no worries. Only reason for trading it in was to get something new. We wanted the hands free phone, navigation and some other features that we did not have on this vehicle.

I am sorry to see it go. I really believe it would have gone another 100,000 miles with no trouble.

I changed the oil every 3,000 miles, and did regular maintenance like brakes and coolant. I just can't say enough good things about the Pacifica.

They do not make them any more, so we bought a 2012 Dodge Durango HEMI to replace it.

2006 Chrysler Pacifica Touring 3.8

Faults:

With in 5000 miles, light bulbs were needing to be replaced.

At 15000 miles ABS light was on. Till now Chrysler cannot fix it, and now they say car is not under the Chrysler warranty.

Gas mileage is crazy on these cars.

General Comments:

Has less power as compared to others in its class.

Lousy gas mileage.

Complaining about the gas mileage!? You bought an SUV! What kind of gas mileage were you expecting?! If gas mileage is that important to you, why didn't you buy something smaller?

These vehicles are known for their fairly weak performance and poor gas mileage, especially compared to some of the other vehicles that used the same engine(s). It was a cool concept car back then (when there really wasn't anything else like it on the market), but the high MSRP, outdated powertrain, and fritzy electronics effectively killed the model within a few years.

Nowadays, they make OK second hand crossovers (it helps that they're fairly inexpensive to buy), but they're still prone to the original issues.
