2004 Chrysler Sebring Convertible LX 2.7 V6

Summary:

Summer time fun!!!

Faults:

Front suspension totally went out; $1,000 repair.

Window in convertible top came loose.

Engine tends to slush up, so you have to change the oil every 2,000 miles, but I had zero engine problems.

General Comments:

Sensational looking car inside and out, looks like an Italian roadster.

The V6 is peppy and gets good gas mileage.

Water pumps are internal.

Battery is in driver's fender - a pain to remove.

Nice dash and wonderful premium stereo.

Top works perfect and is fast going up and down, easy to unlatch.

Fun to drive car that feels nimble. Does not like rough roads, will rattle a little, but is easy to drive and park. Comfortable seats.

Front wheel drive so okay on snow. Probably not the ideal daily driver, but perfect for Sunday drives to the country.

2004 Chrysler Sebring Convertible Limited 2.7

Faults:

Seems always something went wrong; every time I serviced this car, there seemed to be another problem.

The top seams along the edge always come loose, engine and air bag light keeps coming on, you will smell gas after 30000 miles.

After I had 30000, a transmission update.

Overheated 8 times.

After I had a fuel injection service done, idle was never the same.

Even with the extended warranty, it will nickel and dime you to death.

I had 2 Sebring Convertibles now. I just got a Hyundai Sonata because of reliability. The Sebring Convertible is great for a while, but once you hit 29000, watch out.

General Comments:

I'm never getting another one.

The 2.7 engine in 2004 is known to be a sludge former. Your idling problem could be a problem with sludge, and not fuel injection. There is a class-action lawsuit pending on this. Likely the person you sold it to had to replace the engine well before it is time.

Chrysler should restore trust in owners of their cars by backing up the 2004 production year 2.7 engine with an extended warranty.

A fun, wonderful touring car

Faults:

Top was a little ragged. Put a new vinyl one on.

Two new tires.

General Comments:

We've had the car a few weeks now and still love it. It's roomy, comfortable, has plenty of power for us.

We generally ride with the top down since we live in Florida.

We have the top-of-the-line model, the Limited, which has a trip computer (mpg, etc), ABS, and traction control, as well as an alternate manual shift. (But we almost always use the automatic).

The car seats four adults comfortably, which cannot be said about all convertibles.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

If you still own your car and end up needing to replace the top again, I would highly recommend that you avoid the vinyl and go with a cloth replacement top.

You've got a top of the line Sebring Limited - the cloth tops last longer and look better as well. For the difference in the price, it really is well worth investing in the cloth top. I imagine your Limited originally came with a cloth top, as the vinyl tops usually come on the less expensive models.
