1993 Chrysler Voyager Base model 2.5L 4 cylinder

Summary:

Great value, excellent experience

Faults:

Several oxygen sensor replacements (and subsequent cat converter). Replaced clutch at 120,000. Otherwise just regular oil, tire and battery maintenance.

General Comments:

Easy to drive, and comfortable, this has been a great family vehicle while the kids were growing up. We've had countless family vacations, camping trips, etc, most with our small utility trailer hitched to the back. Fuel consumption is significantly better than the 6-cylinder models, (though not in the Toyota echo category :-) and with the manual 5-speed transmission power is adequate in all but the most gruelling uphill runs.

We bought this new at the local Chrysler dealer (at a great discount because the 1994 models were already in), have owned it for 15 years now, and all-in-all its been a great car.

1993 Chrysler Voyager 3.0 liter

Summary:

Do not buy a Dodge/Chrysler

Faults:

We have replaced the transmission twice. The rear wiper does not work. The air conditioning has broken twice, and still does not work. We have had to replace the alternator three times. The driver side seat belt locks on you; you can't pull it out or it locks tight on you when it does. The side door lock gets stuck so it can't be opened. The brakes went out (it seemed) every couple of months after we first got it. After about 3 times, my husband replaced something to fix the problem.

General Comments:

I think Chrysler should have made a recall on the transmissions.

I really didn't like hearing that these transmissions are known for this.

1995 Chrysler Voyager

Summary:

Not a very good vehicle

Faults:

We've had three transmissions put in this. Within the first 6 months of owning it, it was in the dealer five times because of transmission problems. Finally, it was rebuilt. We had to have a new transmission put in about four years later, and now, it needs another one. Paint job is horrible, it's been peeling for years. Chrysler paid to have the hood repainted 5 years ago because of the problem, but it's now on the entire vehicle.

General Comments:

Poor quality.

Your experience is not typical. Our best friends have owned two Chrysler vans. The first was virtually trouble free for 240,000 miles. The current one has over 130,000 with only one minor electrical problem. A business associate of mine also has owned two Dodge vans, both of which went over 200,000 with virtually no problems. Although Chrysler is notorious for bad customer service and not honoring their warranty, their vehicles are generally very good.

For now on make sure you PUT in the correct fluid and don't be shifting from R to D while still going backwards.

1998 Chrysler Voyager

Summary:

Stay clear of Chrysler products

Faults:

Required new oil seals after five years.

Hood and roof paint is bubbling and peeling off after seven years.

Rubber soundproofing gasket around driver door failed after five years.

Transmission failed after six years and had to be replaced.

Rubber seat rail cracked after four years.

General Comments:

A sturdy engine (not counting oil leaks) and good all around hauling one would expect from a mini-van.

This is the first Chrylser we've owned (had two previous minivans) that had its paint fail after seven years. All in all, the car seems made only to last four to five years.
