1997 Dodge Avenger ES 2.5 liter V6

Summary:

A sleek and quick car for a person on a tight budget

Faults:

There is a wining sound coming from the engine compartment starting around 60mph. It only happens when I step on the gas. And it only starts after the car has been running for a while.

No major problems so far.

General Comments:

I've only had the car for a month or so and so far I love it. I'm a bachelor and it fits my lifestyle great. Small yet roomy. Quick yet great gas mileage. And the overall look of the car is very cool.

And too all of you who claim the turning radius is horrible, try driving an 86 Mercury Cougar, then you'll know what a wide turning radius is.

Hey, Robert Blake owns one so it must be a "killer" vehicle.

1997 Dodge Avenger 2.5 V6

Summary:

Basically an Eclipse

Faults:

Paint fading badly on roof and trunk.

General Comments:

Fast car, I put a system in the back and I still have plenty of trunk space.

Best first car I could've ever had, check this thing out!

Same interior as an Eclipse, just a tad larger. I swear, it's the same car!

The original Avenger and Eclipse are the same car, just different name plates.

1997 Dodge Avenger ES 2.0 DOHC

Summary:

"The poor mans Viper!"

Faults:

All the below had been fixed before I purchased the car by the dealership:

-Water pump

-Head gaskets

-Timing belt.

As of right now, there is nothing wrong with it that effects it's performance, or anything cosmetic.

General Comments:

I love the sleek design of this vehicle. I also love how fast it is, but at the same time how economical it has appeared to be. I filled up the tank after leaving the dealership today, put on 117 miles, and I've only used a little above an 1/8 of a tank.

The interior is exceptionally roomy. I have a buddy who is 6'5 and he sat in the back seat and said he was actually comfortable.

The Mitsubishi 2.0 DOHC allows for quick acceleration, and the chance for plenty of mods if I so choose. The gauge cluster is also very nice, again taking after the Mitsubishi gauge cluster. The manual transmission isn't touchy at all. I can press the clutch ever so lightly and it still deactivates the transmission for the gear change.

The low to the ground body allows for better air resistance on those windy days when semis get pushed all over the road.

UPDATE-

Within the last week, I've began to notice some things that aren't pleasing about this car... all cosmetic:

- There is a squeaking coming from the left side panel by the windshield.

- Another squeaking coming from the driver's side door when opening and closing, should be better after I lube it up.

I still have great things to say about this car, and I would recommend it as long as the buyer doesn't mind a little squeek here and there if they don't want to fix it or tighten the screws.

Mitsubishi doesn't make the 2.0 liter DOHC. It is the same engine used in the Neon, which for some reason doesn't have as many problems with the head gasket blowing. Just thought I'd add these two comments. It is a well heard rumor that Mitsubishi makes the engine, but it is totally false.

Mitsubishi does not make the 2.0, but they did make the v6, the 2.0 avenger and eclipse are very similar same horsepower and everything, but the mods you can do to the eclipse is just so much better. Don't worry I am more an avenger fan than elipse.

The 2.0l engine in my 97 Avenger is the exact one that a 97 Eclipse has. The Tag inside the door and on the firewall both say Mitsubishi. Every part I have purchased has been Mitsubishi. I doubt it's a coincidence.
