1997 Dodge Caravan LX 3.6

Faults:

We had to replace the clock spring this year before we realized it was on recall. It cost us $220 which we were reimbursed.

We had to replace the lifters in 1999 which caused oil to leak. That cost us $800+.

We replaced the tensioner belt which seized twice for $300 each time.

The ignition lock went bad and we had to replace that for another $150.

We also have to have a brake job each year.

Now, there is something squeaking on the back passenger side of the vehicle that we have no idea what it is.

We have oil changes less than every 3000 miles because it leaks and burns quickly.

That's it for Dodge and me. We are moving onto something else.

I must say that you have put a lot of miles on the poor car in just 5 years. Maybe that was why you had to change the brakes so often and so many repairs. Also I think it matters to where you take your car to be serviced and what kind of job they do there.

1997 Dodge Caravan base grand 3.0

Summary:

It is a money pit piece of junk

Faults:

The serpentine belt was tore up three times before a new idler was put on. The fourth time it broke it got into the timing belt and caused major expense and stranded my wife at 3:00 am in the morning.

The transmission has never seemed right. It feels loose when in cruise control. Now the transmission is either slamming hard into third gear or chattering several seconds before finally engaging.

I've tried trading the piece of junk off before the transmission went out, but no dealer will give you anything for it, I guess I know why now.

General Comments:

I'll not own a Dodge again.

A rough ride and doggy.

1997 Dodge Caravan 3.3

Summary:

A decent vehicle

Faults:

Small oil leak fixed by dealer.

Some caliper troubles.

On 3rd timing belt.

General Comments:

It's a decent vehicle. It rides nice and stands up well to the constant assault of 3 boys. The problems so far have been minor and were easily fixed.

We were aware of the small coolant reservoir for the transmission and added a second one soon after we purchased the vehicle. The transmission is still working fabulously.

The engine runs good still. We have maintained it as it should. It is a bit of a dog with A/C on going up hills though.

Overall, It has paid for itself and we are not unhappy with it. It is still running good, cross the fingers, and hope it stays so.

1997 Dodge Caravan SE

Summary:

JUNK

Faults:

I have replaced the front brakes once a year. Twice I have replaced the rotors, This last time I replaced the calipers on the front and the back cylinders, but the pads were still like new have never replaced the back pads. This last repair cost just under $700.00.

Timing belt went, $190.00 plus tax, to replace it.

The front seat has a mind of its own as driving down the road it will slide all the way back (I am very short).

Just had the clock spring replaced thank goodness for the recall.

Now I am leaking oil.

General Comments:

I still have over 2 years left to pay for this junk.

I am sure by the time I pay this off I will have to replace trans. & motor.

I do like the way it drives, except when going up hill in summer I have to turn the a/c off in order to make it up the hill.

The seats are comfortable (except when I go flying back every once in awhile.)

I have a daycare out of my home and do take children on short trips, I am dreading the day I break down with 5 or 6 kids in it.
