1988 Dodge Colt LX

Summary:

Fun and cheap ride

Faults:

Had to replace belts, hoses, and filters. Standard things like that. Redid some wiring.

General Comments:

Great first car. Great on gas, 4 doors makes it easy to get a few friends around with, and the stick shift is just plain fun to drive. Nice field of view. Is also easy to handle and park.

If something goes wrong you can basically fix it yourself as the engine isn't rocket science.

The only bad thing I have to say is about the wiring, you can't tie anything directly to the frame that is electronic.

I would definitely recommend this to any first time driver, it may not look all that cool, but if you plan on learning how to drive, you will probably get a few dents and dings so why not do it to a car that can handle it.

1988 Dodge Colt E 1.5L MFI

Summary:

Cheap ride!

Faults:

Normal wear items, like springs, rear shocks, brakes.

Valve cover seal went and was originally thought to be a cracked engine block (by a Chrysler dealership) Local mechanic fixed it and ran fine afterward.

Exhaust cracked at manifold, had it welded back together for $50 before getting rid of it.

General Comments:

I only paid $500 for this car in 1997. I put in a total of about $5000 in repairs in four years. It gave me 4 years of reliable transportation. I only got rid of it to get a new vehicle for a long commute. I regret getting rid of the Old Colt. Makes a great beater or second car. I would definitely recommend one as a first car, as it was mine. The Mitsubishi engine ran great even after driving it with no oil (valve cover seal problem).

1988 Dodge Colt L 1.5

Summary:

Basic/inexpensive in-city transportation

Faults:

1-) Manifold replaced due to a crack.

2-) Clutch cable replaced.

3-) A/C not working (I don't know why)

4-) CV boot cover replaced

General Comments:

I have an 88 COLT 2 DR Red/Stick Shift. My friend gave it to me free (instead of the junkyard).

I was planning to fix the car and then sell it to make some money. After using the car more than 2 months, I like it and have not found any reason to sell it (after all, I cannot find another free car with this level of reliability).

This car has 119K on it and it does the job. I liked the car because of gas consumption + quick acceleration. This is a very good second car to save the expensive one.

I recommend this car for basic/inexpensive in-city transportation.

Hi were is the starter to a 1988 dodge colt.

1988 Dodge Colt 1.5 liter

Summary:

A constant thrilling ride

Faults:

My fan belt started squealing, I had to adjust it.

My radiator cracked which caused my head gasket to blow out. Radiator punctures can be welded with standard ten dollar welding gun, If the holes not to big, then you might have to braze it.

General Comments:

My 1988 dodge colt has been a reliable and dependable car. Its comfortable and good on gas and can zip around corners and tight spots very easily.

It's a down right sexy San Diago exploring car.

1988 Dodge Colt E 1.5 EFI

Summary:

I sure got my money's worth out of it!

Faults:

When I purchased the car it had a warped head, so I had to replace the engine. I found out that a used engine is cheaper than a re-manufactured head.

I also need to replace my drive axles, and the drivers' seat back is real weak.

At around 149000 miles, the upper radiator hose started to swell and needed to be replaced.

General Comments:

I bought the Colt so I could deliver news papers. I found out that I had made a good choice.

I am very happy with the 42 miles per gallon that I get on the highway.

The Dodge Colt is extremely easy to work on. It only took me about 5 hours to do a complete engine swap, including a new clutch.

In 2 years, I have driven 53000 miles.

I also own of a Dodge Colt 200E. It always has been a easy car to repair. It's not a car for great traveling or for a big family. It's very much at ease in city driving and everyday shopping.

If Mitsubishi come back to North America with its new Colt 200, it will be a success.
