2004 Dodge Dakota Sport 4.7L V8

Summary:

I'm happy so far

Faults:

Power steering fluid well cracked at 300 miles - replaced by dealer.

Windshield broke from a gravel impact at 4500 miles - paid the deductible on that one.

Transmission won't downshift without a complete stop when going uphill at low speed. No solution to this as yet.

General Comments:

Handling is only satisfactory (compared to other small trucks), but the 4-wheel anti-lock brakes and limited slip rear differential help a lot on ice and snow.

Seats, 4-doors, and roomy interior accommodate large people in comfort.

Mileage is about 15.6 city 18.5 highway.

Power is probably a little more than necessary for general driving, but this truck tows a 3500 lb boat with ease.

2004 Dodge Dakota SLT 4.7 V8 Magnum

Summary:

Raw V-8 power, good looks, 4X4 capability... I love this truck!

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong.

General Comments:

I have had my 2004 Dakota Club Cab 4X4 SLT for a year this month.

We had record snowfall last winter (30 inches) and I had no problems getting anywhere I wanted to go. I have the optional anti-spin differential and tire and handling group (all-terrain tires / 16" x 8" wheels.)

I still get comments on what a great looking truck it is even though the new Dakota model is out.

The gas mileage has averaged around 14 -15 mpg. I wanted a V-8. I got a V-8. I will not complain about the mileage. It's gas prices (currently $2.20) that cause the fill-up expense. I would not trade the power and torque of my V-8 just to save at the pump!

The cabin is roomy for the front passengers. The club cab rear seats face forward, but will only be comfortable for small children. The cabin is hard to cool on humid days over 80 degrees. I have a black exterior with dark slate gray interior. I'm not sure it would be an issue with a lighter color exterior. Heat is more than adequate even on the coldest day and the V-8 warms up quickly.

I suggest buying a bug shield to any potential buyers. This is the worst vehicle I've ever owned in terms of direct bug hits on the windshield.

I have no regrets about my purchase. I love this truck!

2004 Dodge Dakota SLT 4.7 Liter V8

Summary:

Overall, what a great choice

Faults:

Nothing at all has gone wrong with this great truck.

General Comments:

When I first got it I was lucky to get 12 mpg during city driving, now that gas prices are $2.21 in my area my driving habits are changing

I am now getting 15 in mostly city driving, which is awesome.

Filled it up yesterday, cost me $43.50,but that's OK when I'm getting 15 mpg

Highway I've gotten about 20 mpg.

2004 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab Sport 4.7 Liter Magnum V8

Summary:

Overall I thing this was a great choice

Faults:

SO far nothing has gone wrong with this truck.

General Comments:

This is a very quick truck

Which means gas mileage suffers

Last few times I filled up I had less than 10 mpg all city

City mileage about 10-12

Highway about 18-21

Very Confortable ride and drive

Back seats could be better, but they are still good enough.

My 2003 Quad Cab 4X4 has the 4.7 liter V-8, and I consistently achieve 17 to 18mpg with it. You definitely need to drive them easy to achieve this mileage level. I also remind myself all the time that most V-6 engines from the competitors do no better in the mileage department. I love the V-8 motor in my Dodge!

2004 Dodge Dakota Sport 4x4 ext. cab 4.7 magnum V8

Summary:

This truck is great!

Faults:

Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with this vehicle so far. I've used her off road, on road and through the snow, and it's all holding together just as well as the day I bought it.

General Comments:

Generally speaking, I'm very very satisfied with the purchase of this truck. It's done everything I've asked of it and more.

As far as fuel economy, its not nearly as bad as I was lead to believe it would be. Being a V8, obviously its not what one could call "great" on gas, but I drive a 60km round trip to work every day, and it has yet to break the bank.

My only complaint is that the rear seats are quite cramped, even for someone of average size. Its not often I try and carry many people back there, but when I do it tends to be a chore to get more than one person in the back.
