1989 Dodge Daytona Shelby 2.2L Turbo II

Summary:

A performance car that is easy to live with and is a bargain

Faults:

Head gasket replaced around 105,000 miles.

Speakers going bad.

Power door locks don't always work.

Driver's side power window is slow going up in cold weather.

Replaced clutch around 99,000 miles I think.

Replaced pick-up coil around 101,000 miles.

Paint is faded in some spots.

General Comments:

Aside from some little naggling things, it has been very reliable. It's my daily driver.

Still a very solid car after all the miles put on it. Very few rattles.

T-tops are great. Very little rattling and no water leaks yet. A great surprise. I can't wait for summer. I love the T-tops. One of the best features of the car.

The performance is good, very good at times, especially when I need the power in traffic.

The car is a blast to drive.

Gets pretty good gas mileage for a sporty car, if you can resist the turbo.

The seats are fine and pretty comfortable, even though you sit low.

The car has kept up very well for being an older model. A testament to Chrysler Corporation's engineering.

I hope to have it repainted this year and show it at some car shows. Nothing major, just the colors it came with from the plant.

I love this car; I hope to keep it forever.

Hi my name is Jared and I have an 1987 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z. I am having trouble trying to find parts for the interior. I really want to restore the car. The only thing wrong with it right now is the transmission, but it's being rebuilt. Please if you know of any remanufacturer for this car please reply.

1989 Dodge Daytona ES 2.5

Summary:

Inexpensive and light on the pocketbook

Faults:

I had to replace the brakes once and the shocks once, but otherwise very dependable.

General Comments:

The car drives very nice. It turns on a dime.

It picks up speed, but is not the fastest car on the road.

Very comfortable on long trips.

1989 Dodge Daytona 2.5

Summary:

Nice looking pile of crap!!!!!!!

Faults:

What didn't go wrong?????

The computer took a crap at 92,000 miles.

Every sensor was replaced.

The exhaust was replaced twice.

The transmission was replaced 2 times, same with the engine.

The heat mysteriously stopped working.

The car jolted everytime you tried to put it into second gear.

The clutch pedal was stuck to the floor.

After a full brake job... The rotors, callipers & pads, etc. The brakes went bad after only two thousand miles.

Upon selling the car the clutch and transmission went out on the car followed up by the engine one more time. This all totalling well over four times the car's worth.

General Comments:

Don't buy one unless you have a big wallet.

This person purchased a 1989 car with 89,000 miles in 1996 and didn't expect problems????? I don't know of many 7 year old cars with that many miles that are not going to have problems. It sounds like the person was expecting this car to be problem free. I wouldn't expect any car of this age to have 0 problems.

Furthermore, some of the problems he had sound like poor service work on the part of the company(ies) that repaired the vehicle (i.e. brakes going bad after 2000 miles, 2 transmissions, etc.)

1989 Dodge Daytona ES 2.5 Turbo I

Summary:

Offers a lot of bang for the buck

Faults:

Transmission went out, but otherwise just general maintenance.

General Comments:

Offers great performance and fun to drive. Looks great too. Just wish I had a 5-speed manual to make it really scoot.
