1999 Dodge Durango SLT 5.9L Gasoline
Faults:
Nothing has gone wrong with my Dodge Durango SLT.
The balance control joy stick, for the radio, is a poor design.
General Comments:
My Durango performs well in the snow and rain. I have really appreciated the anti-lock brakes on more than one occasion.
I get 18 miles per gallon on the highway and 13 combined. Anyone that expects to do better should never have bought this type of vehicle.
Power is excellent and acceleration is smooth and strong. I will be towing a 24 foot 3500 pound boat and I expect it to perform well based on my experience with short tows so far.
The interior offers ample room to transport my family of 5 and our gear. The air conditioning does a fine job keeping us cool in the summer.
No other SUV has the aggressive look of the Durango. So far the truck has performed as well as it looks.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I have a 1999 Durango with 50,000 miles. Today, my engine blew up. The service mechanic states that the rods in the engine are now broken and that it will be necessary for me to purchase a new engine. I have documented evidence of problems with the oil sending mechanism. I have experienced oil pressure "drop-off" on different occasions. Many times this happens when I suddenly accelerate the vehicle. It is confirmed now that they have had problems with inlet screens to the oil pump. These screens must clog unusually easily.
I would like to know of additional customers that have had this problem with the Durango. Perhaps an effort can be organized to force a recall of these vehicles. Thank you.
