Um, your Durango has a 5.9L _MAGNUM_ engine and not a Triton. A Magnum engine is a Chrysler motor and was first used in production vehicles in 1992 when the 5.2L motor was introduced. A year later, in 1993, the 5.9L motor was used on production vehicles. First the Ram truck got the 5.9L and later the Dakota and then the finally the Durango.

The use of the "Magnum" engine by dodge goes back to the 60's, and the classic muscle cars that had the big block 440, etc. Check out a classic Dodge Daytona, say from 1969, with a 440 Magnum engine. These cars were just plain awesome, and the trunk wing such a unique finishing touch. You could go from the street to the track in one trip.

2000 Dodge Durango V6

Summary:

Not as reliable or as safe as I would like

Faults:

Problem with a transmission seal right after three year warranty.

Most recently, upper ball joints failed inspection at 36,000 miles.

General Comments:

When I was told the upper ball joints failed inspection on my 36,000 mile Durango, I decided to research the problem. I discovered that for months there has been an investigation ongoing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration concerning whether premature wear of ball joints has been the cause of numerous accidents.

2000 Dodge Durango not sure not sure

Faults:

It is a very nice riding vehicle.

The only major problems I have with it are rather important to the safety of anyone who drives one.

First off the throttle gets stuck last time I almost got wrapped around a tree because of this.

I took it to the dealer and they said that it was a fluke, I am finding that hard to believe from what I have been finding about this issue with this vehicle on the net.

The other issue is drive shaft snapped when I hit a pot hole in the road, I know damage can occure from hitting pot holes, however, I was only going 35mph.

General Comments:

It is cozy and the power is good.

2000 Dodge Durango SLT 5.9

Speed Sensor in the Transmission went out within the first 100 miles I had it. Cost me over 600 dollars to repair.

Door Actuator's make high pitch sound when locking or unlocking and driver's side won't lock or unlock with remote. Very annoying.

General Comments:

Love the power.

Seats are very uncomfortable.

Gas mileage is horrible.

Love the look.

2000 Dodge Durango SLT Magnum V8 Magnum

Summary:

Nice, but there are nicer SUV's out there

Faults:

Recently I heard a noise in the front part of the vehicle. It appears that my transfer case is leaking.

My ball joints are worn out prematurely.

General Comments:

The car in of itself is a pretty solid vehicle. However there are numerous quirks with the whole drive train system.

The drive train is also very noisy and the noise intensifies when you are driving slowly.

2000 Dodge Durango R/T 5.9 Gas

Summary:

No

Faults:

Window motors for Front Right and Rear left door.

Electric lock motor on Right door.

Switch for electric windows for both rear doors.

Ball Joint in Front suspension.

Fuel sensor & resistor (this took 3 trips to figure out, 2 to the dealer which they couldn't figure out and 1 to a private mechanic who hit is first time)

Worst of all, fault in the throttle housing cause the throttle to stick open, crashed the car into a pole.

General Comments:

First, my wife and I LOVE this Durango for the looks and comfort of the car. We live in CA and have taken this up and down the state, VERY comfortable and roomy. Also, have taken it skiing with friends piled into the car, more than enuogh room with 6 adults and ski stuff ontop of the SUV. Handling in the snow was awsome.

Now, the bad part. This is our 2nd SUV and both have been maintenance nightmares. We need an SUV for kids, but this thing is in the shop more than not. We have 4 other cars, Porsche, BMW, Conquest and Fiero. The SUV by far spends more time in the shop and it is the NEWST of all the cars. However, we put up with it because we need an SUV and we truely do love the car when it is working properly.

Dodge mechanics are idiots to say the least. We have been to three different dealships in the bay area, all three are totally incompetent. Thank God I am done with the manufacturer warranty and onto the extended warranty where I can go to anyone.

Lastly, there was a flaw in the throttle body for which the throttle was stuck open, my wife was driving, freaked her out. Everything was repaired, but Dodge really dropped the ball, our insurance company and lawyers had to step in to get things right.

Overall, love the looks and comfort of the SUV. However, quality control and reliability leave a lot to be desired.
