Regular oil changes every 3,000 miles.
Front brakes need to be replaced at 164,589.
Great van. I have had minimum problems with it. It had great power and pick up. Very comfortable, and it's just a great van.

Good Job Dodge
I had to replace the radiator shortly after I bought the Grand Caravan.
For a minivan that was built in 1989, I did not expect it to have so much luxury. The Grand Caravan was equipped with power front windows and power very rear windows which were controlled from switches on the roof console. It also had power rear view mirrors and the drivers seat was power. It had a dual A/C and the tape and radio worked great. It had great sound and a display in the roof that provided the temperature as well as 4 reading lamps. It was a neat and very comfortable van. I was very surprised and happy with its strength and luxury. I would definitely buy another Dodge and currently own a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan. I purchased my 1989 for $1000 dollars and I did not expect so much comfort and reliability. It was a very good vehicle on three 1000 mile trips and it also got me to and from work every day. I made a HUGE mistake of selling my minivan when I thought I did not need it anymore. I put about 35000 miles on it and sold it in 2003 for more than I had originally bought it for.

Nice vehicle, but could have had a better life
Power Steering pump needed to be replace three times (twice with used and once with a rebuilt. Then I discovered that it was the power steering rack was shot and had to be replaced. I had to replace the radiator soon after I got it due to leaks and it was completely rusted out. I am still heating up fast, especially during idling in construction zones or drive through. Could be the water pump) One of the wheel barrings had to be replaced. Parking break was and still is inoperable. Rear wiper quit working after the wiper arm rusted off.
I love the room this one has. It handles good (after the steering problem was resolved). Even though I had a lot of problems I wouldn't give it up (unless it dies completely). This is the only car I liked to drive long distance in.

I love my caravan, but I'd take another vehicle any day
Poor thing is just worn out. It's been around for ever and from what I hear about them its led a good life. New radiator, fuel pump, burns oil, keep having vacuum problems now on the engine.
I love my caravan, but don't know if I'd ever buy another one. I'm more of a Chevy kinda person.
But for the bad rep that caravans have, I'd have to say it's not deserved. If you take car of it it will last for ever. Mine is just worn out and I haven't taken the best care of it.

LOL, ya I just bought a 1989 woody with 210650 miles. I couldn't believe it, it starts right up no problem. It had sat for a year, so as soon as I had the old fuel run out of it, it was fine.
It has a freaking sunroof and is probably the most comfortable car I have ever driven.
The auto tranny is sometimes reluctant to shift, but as soon as I get that fixed, along with some new motor mounts, I think it will be a decent ride!!!

I agree with this guy!! If you want your van to last take care of it! Everyone has heard horror stories about these vans, but how many people really follow a strict maintenance plan? Well I DO! For starters just Change that tranny fluid and filter EVERY SPRING! And I'd spend the extra money to do a good fluid flush on it every other spring. WHY? You ask, because that's how you can get 285,000 miles on your first tranny like I did. That's right the original transmission went 285 rounds with NO problem. The shop didn't believe me when I said it was the original transmission, but after it was opened up they found the proof by checking the cluster packs, the rebuild kits don't have the same configuration as the original equipment (they called it an improvement, Ha Ha Ha). Currently, I have 355,600 miles on OLD WOODY and he's still raring to get-up and Go Go Go!!! So keep'em clean and your wallet won't run lean!!
PS: The name "Old Woody" refers to the classic wood grain sided vans, like I said, keep it Clean!!!
