1998 Dodge Intrepid 2.7

Summary:

I'll never own a Dodge again

Faults:

Two sensors went out causing the car to stay in limp mode.

Developed smoke when starting. However, after a couple of minutes it was gone. Could not tell where or why there was smoke.

Started using about a half a quart of oil every other day. There wasn't any oil dripped on the garage floor so we weren't sure where it was going.

Most recent happening is the engine is now shot. The mechanic says it will cost about $5300. to replace it.

General Comments:

The car performed wonderfully when we first got it.

The engine seems to be the only problem with this car.

I would say 118,000 miles out of the original engine is a good deal. Suck it up and buy a new car!

The car rides smoothly, and Love the way it handles. The engine on the other hand is sorry. 2.7 cu in engine. Just bought the car to replace two older cars that has over 300,000 miles and decided to buy the Intrepid and was expecting to last for 4 yrs. Now I am faced with an outrageous bill to have the engine replaced.

1998 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.2

Summary:

Mechanics dream / consumer nightmare

Faults:

Where do I start?

This vehicle currently has 83,000 miles and I have replaced the following;

Fuel pump, both tie rods, radiator, intake manifold, spark plugs, oil pan not to mention our new problem, the car has trouble starting after you drive in hot weather. The interior lights also come on at will.

General Comments:

I do enjoy the power of the 3.2 liter engine and over all performance. Unfortunately it appears to have cheap parts and something is always going wrong with this vehicle.

1998 Dodge Intrepid 2.7

Who has money to just give away

Oil pan replacement twice

Motor in the passenger window gone bad

Oxygen sensors replaced twice

Engine gone at 66,000 miles

Outer tie rod ends worn

Battery cables replaced twice

Serpentine belts replaced twice within 4 months.

Transmission Control Module shorted out.

General Comments:

This car has cause me great pain in my pockets. When I purchased the car, it had 5,400 miles. I purchased this junk in January 1998. Over the years, I have put out over $9,000 dollars in repairs. On April 29th, I took my car in for repairs due to hearing noise under the hood, which cost me $1,827. My car would not pass an emission test due to a failed Transmission Control Module. I also had my engine flushed, two belts replaced, both tie rod ends replaced and the basic tune up brake inspection. On May 1, I called the Dodge dealership back to inform them that the noise was still their. I took the car back to service on May 8th. I was then told that my engine was going bad. I questioned them as to why I wasn't told this when the car was there on April 29th. They just said to me, we didn't know. I could have cried like a baby once they said it would cost me $5,000 to replace the engine. I will never purchase another Dodge Intrepid again.
