1999 Dodge Intrepid 2.7L

Summary:

Great looking car with numerous problems

Faults:

At 35,000 miles the transmission went and we had it replaced.

At 50,000 the passenger side window motor broke and also the lock mechanism.

At 80,000 the timing chain came off, damaging the engine.

General Comments:

The car ran good up until the timing chain went. It is a very good looking and roomy car with lots of trunk space and a large back seat. We are very disappointed with the cost of repairs for the car's engine which would be more than the car is worth if we were to sell it. If anyone has any information regarding the class action lawsuit, we would be very interested. Please email us at czamiara@msn.com.

I would like to know about the class action lawsuit regarding the engines in the Intrepids. Mine has 116000 miles on it and has been METICULOUSLY maintained with an every 3000 miles Mobil 1 oil change, adult driven and never abused and yet the engine is now knocking and the Dealer said it is a well known (to Dodge) problem with the 2.7 liter engine and Dodge knew it was a bad design and sold it anyway. This will cost over 6000 dollars to fix. The corporate answer to me is "well it's out to warranty, too bad" or "well it's high mileage" I can't beleive anyone buys this crap from them. How many cars are there out there with 100000 or more miles on them that run just fine??? Millions? I think Dodge should be held responsible for replacing these engines. We are not all made of money and can't just run out and buy a new car every 2 years. This is ridiculous.

1999 Dodge Intrepid 2.7

Summary:

Good

Faults:

I read 50 or so reviews on the '99 Intrepid and I see a huge trend as I had all of the same problems: speed sensor went out and trans won't shift, AC went out at 30k and 60k, drivers window came out of track at 53k. Definite problems that Dodge SHOULD recall, but that is a political issue..e.g. if it won't KILL you or others, it will NOT be recalled. Overall a good car, but Dodge should stand behind its product!

1999 Dodge Intrepid 2.7

Summary:

A good looking piece of crap!

Faults:

Within the first three months of owning my Dodge Intrepid, all of my window stopped working. The all went out one at a time. I was told the it was the motors and the the switches were probably not far behind.

My motor then blew due to sludge build up and caused massive damage at about 64500 miles. It was running fine one day and the next it was knocking horribly. It died twice on my way to the mechanic.

When I got may Intrepid back after it being in the shop for two weeks, the air conditioner was not cold. they had to replace the air conditioner compressor coil.

When I did run the air conditioner, it would have condensation build up around the vent inside the car.

General Comments:

The car looks great, I love that about it!

The looks of the car don't mean a thing when it runs like crap!

The amount of problems I have had with my Intrepid in the six month that I have owned it is rediculious!

I will never recomend an Intrepid to anyone, even my worst enemy!

I will never buy another Dodge product as long as I live!

This is the single worst investment that I have ever made!

I love my 2004 Intrepid SE, but my windows stopped working and the side mirrors. Don't know why, but it has me wondering, did I buy a lemon? This should not be on a 2004 that I've only had since March 2004. If anyone has any suggestions on what it could be, please post it for me. Thanks.
