1999 Dodge Intrepid LX 2.7L

Summary:

Piece of junk

Faults:

Total sludge build up in the engine at 45,500. Still had 1 years payment on a car I only owned for 4 years!!!

Was told $7K for a new engine. Not worth it.

General Comments:

If you own one, get rid of it now!

Also, join a possible class action suit against DaimlerChrysler at www.bigclassaction.com.

I couldn't believe how many people are out there with the same problem.

1999 Dodge Intrepid LX 2.7

Summary:

Don't buy another Dodge Intreprid, unless you just like to throw money away

Faults:

I have had to replace several sensors.

I have had the starter replaced.

My engine has died.

General Comments:

I loved the sporty and roomy look of my 1999 Dodge Intrepid. But the costs of repairs to this vehicle are unacceptable.

Since having this vehicle I have spent so much money in repairs. The car is currently sitting in my garage because the engine died on me. I still owe about $5,000 on the car loan. It's not worth getting another engine because it costs more than the car is worth. I also don't want to spend the money on the engine and more problems, which are bound to happen occurs. Of course my warranty expired a couple of months before the engine died and before a few sensors had to be replaced. I've heard that the engines in this vehicle are no good. Mechanics have told me that they are surprised that the engine didn't go before the 88,000 miles that I put on it.

I had a 1993 Nissan Altima that has way more than 150,000 miles on it that I sold and is still running. I wish I would have kept it.

I'll never buy another Dodge. Please email me if there's a recall on these engines, since the car is just sitting in my garage. My email address is brenpatterson@sbcglobal.net.

It appears that I am not the only one who has their engine blown and payments still due. I went through two engines, and it is only at 140K.

The engine in my '99 Dodge Intrepid just died also. I have 118k miles on it and I still owe $3000. A new motor will cost approx $3000, and everyone I have talked to says the motors are junk. I will be taking a big loss on this one.

Our 1999 Dodge Intrepid is a piece of junk! The engine died at 74,000 miles and it cost $4,000 to replace it with a used engine! Now the windows and the air conditioner and the directional lights work only after you have tapped on the key about 20 times. Do not buy these cars!

I have a 1994 Intrepid and a 2002 Intrepid R/T. The 1994 has over 265,000 miles on it, and the R/T has almost 100,000 on it. Never had a serious problem with either.

People who have trouble with Intrepids simply do NOT do proper maintenance. Yes, the car has to be maintained properly, or you will have trouble... just like any other car.

The problem isn't the car... it's people who think they should be able to drive it forever w/o replacing parts... or, even bothering to change their oil.

1999 Dodge Intrepid 2.7

Summary:

An expensive piece of junk

Faults:

First, I had to start replacing sensors after having the car for only two months. I would reach a destination, and find out that I was stranded because the car would not start.

Then, after three months, at 65000 miles, I had to replace an engine. The warranty covered $2500 of the cost and I had to food the remaining $3,000 of the bill.

I had the car back for two months when the engine blew up again. So again, I had to replace the motor.

I got the car back and since then I have replaced the wiring harness, thermostat housing, another sensor, and too many other little things to list.

The car is absolutely dangerous! Driving through a busy traffic light with a 4 year old child and having a car die, mid intersection, is not acceptable to me.

General Comments:

Please, please, do not EVER purchase a Dodge Intrepid. If you do, plan on spending at least $300.00 per month on repair bills and finding alternate transportation half of the time.
