Faults:

- Servo pump which regulates the cruise control after first year

- Periodic problems with starter where engine doesn't turn over when key is turned

- Driver's side window tends to come off track during winter months.

General Comments:

While the Intrepid is a fun car to drive and handles well, especially on corners, it's troubling to read about other owners' problems with the vehicle which I've also experienced. Hopefully my engine won't seize up or my transmission fail in the next year.

Faults:

Within the first 3 months the power regulator for the driver's side window need replacing.

Since that time I have had the check engine light come on for no apparent reason after spending $1,700 dollars to get it looked at and "fixed" by Elhart Dodge in Holland.

I have replaced two more power regulators in the driver's side window, one in the passenger side window which now works intermittently and the rear driver's side window just doesn't work at all.

I have had the dashboard lights flash bright/dim sometimes when it rains, shines or is foggy.

I have had the headlights stay on after turning the headlight switch off.

The windshield wipers become erratic when it gets below 40 degrees.

The sunroof wouldn't close, but of course when I took it to the dealer it shut just fine for them.

The driver's side reclining seat bolts had broken, but were replaced under safety recall notice.

Replaced a broken rear brake caliper (not sure why it broke as I don't have a habit of veering sharply when I am braking)

I have pretty much spent around $4,000 getting this car to be drivable.

General Comments:

The roominess and comfortable ride are the only things keeping me from off loading this puppy in a big hurry.

Faults:

I had had a belt break, but that is expected and the dealer covered it under the used car warranty.

I have replaced the Air filter because the box was broke, which was minor and it improved performance.

General Comments:

I would buy another Dodge NOW if I could! The car handles well and I can drive on the freeway happily!

Faults:

Shift sensor failed at 34,000 miles. This was repaired under warranty.

Started to hear a ticking noise at 48,000 miles. Two different Dodge Dealers could not tell me what was causing this noise.

Timing chain tensioner collapsed at 50,000 miles. Dealer said that this engine is very "sensitive" to sludge build-up. They repaired the tensioner and informed me that there was no internal damage or sludge build-up, but the mysterious ticking noise was still present.

Engine failed at 56,000 miles. Fearing the worst I called Accurate Engines to get an estimate on a replacement engine. They replaced 68 2.7 L engines last year, and have done over 40 already this year! They informed me that Dodge will not admit to having a bad engine and that the dealership would try to blame the failure on improper oil changes.

Of course the "5 Star Dealer" said that this must have been caused by my lack of maintenance. Chrysler Corporation would not help because I did not have receipts for my oil changes. (I do my own oil changes and did not go over 4000 miles between any oil change.) They also said that they know of no complaints with this engine!

A class action law suit would be justified as it seems to be the only recourse for us poor saps who bought one of these lemons.

General Comments:

This is the first and LAST American made car that I buy!
