2000 Dodge Intrepid SE 2.7

Summary:

Nice looking, but unreliable

Faults:

Fuel pump went bad and was replaced at 21,000 miles.

Right rear wheel bearing replaced at 25,000 miles.

Brake rotors replaced at 30,000 miles.

Alloy wheels chip and corrode easily.

General Comments:

We bought this Dodge Intrepid for its ride, sporty look and roominess.

The 5 star dealer where we bought the car has replaced the defective parts, which were under warranty.

The dealer would not replace the alloy wheels and told us that it was common for alloy wheels to get stone chips.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

2000 Dodge Intrepid Base Mdoel 2.7

Summary:

A great car and a great value

Faults:

The only thing that I have noticed wrong with my car concerns the door jambs. The trim pieces around the doors appear to be pulling away and this is causing, in some cases, air to be heard in the cab, at higher speeds.

General Comments:

I have not owned my car for that long, but I do drive it to work everyday; a trip which is 52 miles one way.

The car drives exceptionally well, and is comfortable and fun to drive.

I like the styling and the handling very much, it's a medium size car that feels and drives like a large car.

Being a 49'er fan, I like the Gold paint color and the interior, which is tan, for being 3 years old has worn rather evenly and well.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

A bad motor vehicle

Faults:

The sensors went out.

The motor blew at 82,000 miles.

The back door lock is messed up.

General Comments:

I had a 1998 Dodge Intrepid before this one. Same exact incident happened.

I have an 2000 Dodge Intrepid and my oil pump went out which cause my motor to knock so now I got to replace the motor.

I also have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid that just reached 80,000 miles. Guess what happened the motor blew!

I have 2000 intrepid with 134000 mile. at 125000 the tyranny goes.2400$. 3 months later the kiss of death I think th oil light comes on. Well the mechanic checks it and says he can't find any specs on what the output should be. At start up its 80psi then quickly finds to 6-10 psi. At this point I'm into it for 600$ to tear the motor down for inspection. I tell him to go ahead and change it out just in case total 950$. I ask him how about the timing chain it has a hydraulic adjuster on it and I've heard stories of those going out. They say you don't need it. Bring car home and its running kind of funny I check the oil and I swear they, but 1/2 gear lube in it I mean thick oil. One day later there is a noise under the hood when it warmed up. Dealer know says that its the timing change!!! Well I was lucky they denied telling me I did not need it, but I had them document it in writing. Well the they replaced it for the cost of the tensioner and belt. now its 5 months later and the motor is starting to stutter and the engine light is on. Its back to the dealer. Honestly I love this care, but the reliability thing is killing me. Its rides great,I get 27mpg on the freeway but if it's another high dollar item I'm going to enter it in a demolition derby. At least no other sucker would get stuck with it!!!

I have a 2000 intrepid with over 300k, it is running fine. The key to it have the oil changed in time.

A piece of junk

Faults:

My engine blew at 48,000 miles due to oil sludge with no prior warnings. Dealer is telling me it is my fault when the car has been well maintained.

General Comments:

I really loved my Dodge Intrepid when I first purchased it, it is so roomy and perfect for my family. But with no warning whatsoever the engine blew. The car had always been very well-maintained having oil changes every 2500 miles and Chrysler is blaming me for this problem saying I didn't change the oil correctly. I have been quoted 7200.00 to have the car fixed and still owe 10000.00 on the car. Every dealer that I have talked to has told me that Chrysler knows there is a problem, but the independent dealers can do nothing without their OK. There is no reason why this should have happened to a car that is only 3 years old. The dealer has also informed me that there are no replacement engines for the 2.7 only a upgrade engine which eliminates the problems my 2.7 had so in return tells me they know the engines are junk. I just want Chrysler to acknowledge their wrong doing and correct my problem. I don't feel it is my place to have to pay for it. I would definitely be grateful to anyone who can offer any information on how to start or join a class action suit against them for this.

The first comment is correct. I have a 2001 Intrepid and I have only had the thing for 5 months. I took it for an oil change and the engine was full of sludge also. I now have no vehicle and I certainly can't afford to fix this. If I had that kind of money I never would have purchased a Dodge in the first place. I would have stuck to the good old Chevy which is exactly what I am going back to now!!!
