1995 Dodge Neon Sport 2.0L SOHC
Summary:
This car SUCKS!!!
Faults:
My biggest problem with the car is it makes a horrible clunking noise when reversing; gets worse when you turn in reverse. Does not do it going forward. Feels like the rear of the car is falling apart; we can't figure out what is wrong with it.
It squeals constantly (the belts); drives me crazy.
It has a strange clunk clunk clunk when you put your foot on the brakes, yet the brakes are brand new all the way around.
The car shakes at high speeds, although all front end parts are either new or are in good shape.
Rear struts have also been replaced.
General Comments:
I hate all the rattles and shakes this car has. I previously owned a 1988 Honda Civic sedan with 336,000km on it. It was 100 times the car the Neon is; I made a huge mistake getting rid of it. Anyone looking at buying a Neon, I highly suggest you steer clear. This car makes so many noises, I'm afraid to drive it. When you back up and it clunks, it feels like the rear end of the car is going to fall apart.
I've already started looking to replace it with another Honda. I will never again buy Dodge; this isn't our first bad experience with a Dodge.
And don't tell me it's because the car is high mileage, that's bull; my Honda was still a perfect little car, and this Neon can't hold a candle to it. The Neon is also horrible on fuel for a 4cyl.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I have three Hondas... 2 are great and have a lot of miles on them with very few problems with them... but one must have been built on a Monday morning hangover... it's a money pit.. and it has the least mileage of all of them... Hondas are great cars... but if you get a lemon or abused one... you are going to have to spend some money... do your homework... Take it to a mechanic and get it on a lift, and check for any damage on it...

I was in the same boat as you several years ago. I had a 1995 Neon with roughly 238,000 km's that was just a money pit. Ultimately the car's engine blew, and I promptly replaced it with a 2005 Civic. Do yourself a favour and get rid of that piece of junk ASAP before it swallows up your wallet.

I have a 1995 Neon, and it was the WORST car ever! I have had nothing but problems with it.
I bought it in 2007. It is 2012, and I have spent (according to my mechanic) close to $8000 on repairs and maintenance.
I am getting another car, because the engine on this one is starting to die out. And what makes me angry, is I was looking at the repair history of my car, and it seems the engine was burning oil before I bought it. My mechanic said that if I had come to him before I bought the car (which I did not, I'm sad to say), he would have said 'don't buy it'.
I will be very careful in the future when I buy a new car, and I will not make the same mistake that I made in 2007. I hope the rest of you don't make this mistake either.
