1995 Dodge Neon 4 doors 2.0L SOHC

Summary:

Not too bad

Faults:

Since I bought my Dodge Neon troubles started. I've bought it a 60,000km and everything was alright. At 75,000km 1st transmission blew out. After 6 month a 2nd transmission blew. Now I have a noise coming from the power steering and next summer a will have to change my head gasket.

General Comments:

All other pieces are very strong. This car has a very good handling, acceleration and top speed for the price. I already got 205kmh 3 or 4 times. It's really fast in that little car!!!

1995 Dodge Neon Base 2.2L

Summary:

Cheap car, but reliable

Faults:

Tie Rod broke at 50,000 miles.

Head Gasket blew at 105,000 miles.

Trunk lock broke at 100,000 miles.

Paint is pealing in two places.

Blinkers broke at 100,000 miles.

Battery wires fried out at 102,000 miles.

Muffler had rust holes at about 105,000 miles.

Left door speaker blew.

Blew 2 tires. Strictly my fault.

General Comments:

This is a overall nice car, it is pretty comfortable.

It also has decent power for being a small car.

Besides all the set backs this car is pretty reliable and when problems have occurred it was at my house or at a place where I could get help easily.

Will buy from Dodge again.

I love my car. I have had it for 3 years now. It has never let me down at all. I highly recommend someone buying this car for someone's 1st car.

106,000 and it is using 1 and a half quarts of oil every 2000 miles.

I have a friend who's neon is using 1 quart of oil a week. He has 125,000 miles on it. he says that because they have two oxygen sensors on them, its burning so clean that you can't tell its burning oil.

Our first head gasket blew at 60,000 miles. From everyone I have talked to we are lucky.

When I took the fuel sending unit out, the rubber gasket had about 30 cracks in it.

The fuel filter costs $25.99 at NAPA.

Head gaskets are $65.00. They have been redesigned about five times now. (we are on our third head gasket)

Paint started falling off the car at about 60,000 miles. There was a bulletin about it, but we were over on years. If we parked it out side the garage they would have paid for it.

Burning oil is burning oil. If you are burning that much oil, you can bet there will be a huge white cloud of lingering smoke behind you. Emission's controls/computers have nothing to do with oil burning problems. That comes from piston ring/cylinder wear or valve stem/seal wear. Not a thing the computer can do to "adjust" that or make the exaust "cleaner".

Burning oil in a 2000 Neon is the same as burning oil in a 1966 Mustang.

1995 Dodge Neon 2.0L SOHC/2.0L DOHC

Summary:

A cheap maintainer good performing economical wonder of Chrysler!

Faults:

Bad head gasket.

Timing belt tensioner failed at 180000 miles ruining all 16V on the SOHC before it was switched to a DOHC.

Bad fuel pump at 180000 miles.

Horn broke at 180000 miles.

General Comments:

What do I say about this car? Its fabulous. If people really had a bad problem with this car Dodge wouldn't make the darn things every year in mass numbers...AND, there wouldn't be so many of them on the road! They start right up and drive great even through the beating I've given em. When they do break down, they do it suddenly and with warning... not suddenly and frequently. 10 bucks will last a week in this car! Oil changes are a cinch with a perfectly vertical and easily accessible oil filter. The interior is pretty bland... nothing to write home about, but the performance makes up for it. My DOHC 5-speed kills most compacts on the road. Every car breaks down...don't forget what your car HAS done for you before you condemn it!
