1995 Dodge Neon

Summary:

Junk

Faults:

I have a 95 Neon with 76000 miles with the leaky trunk.

The battery light stays on; I think it's cause most Neons have a power steering leak above the alternator.

Also the problem with the automatic transmissions, when you start off too fast, and it jumps or vibrates, and when it gets worse it will do it when it shifts gears; this is the forward clutches in the trans.. it is cheaper and easier to cross your fingers and buy a junkyard trans, put it in and sell the car..

In my opinion Neons are throw away cars; buy them brand new and when the timing belts go, then get a new car? And I only had my car a week before I had to put a trans in it LOL.

Now that I have read more about them, this will be my last one. If you have any questions that I might be able to answer, feel free to e-mail me at schevycar84@yahoo.com

General Comments:

The car does handle good though.

And gets great gas mileage.

1995 Dodge Neon 2.0L

Summary:

Fun, tough, cheap on gas and insurance; a good 'runabout' car

Faults:

Body is an old rust bucket, but I could care less about rust, and peeling paint.

Lots of electrical fixes: battery, starter, alternator, plugs, wires, coil pack, fuel injector, horn, airbag (not fixed - probably missing), blower resistor.

Struts all around, with outer tie rods and ball joints replaced.

Inner tie rods are seized, and very loose in the socket. Impossible to replace because of manual steering model - can't get re-man rack, which means no alignment possible, leading to...

...lots of new tires.

Brakes all around (twice).

Fuel tank replaced.

Could see through rad, but it wouldn't leak - replaced anyway.

Cylinder head went at 332,000 Km, might have saved it if treated better. Was hoping to go to 360,000, but it's still running!

I'm sure there's more, like no headliner.

General Comments:

This car is a TANK - especially if you treat it right and keep on top of repairs; it just doesn't want to quit! I have driven it past 333,000 Km, running on 3 cylinders, bad body, bad steering and suspension, exhaust leaks, rusty old Magnaflow muffler, and IT DOESN'T WANT TO QUIT!

My model is as basic as it gets - no power steering, no power windows, no a/c, manual transmission, cable clutch, and very uncomfortable for trips more than 1 hour's drive (not to mention hot too).

It is pretty rotten on the highway with regards to noise, but it is VERY STABLE (partly due to the man. steering). Also, a pain in the butt to get in and out of from all seats - it is definitely a knee knocker.

Despite the amount of money I spent on this vehicle, do I regret buying it? NO. It has been quite FUN to own. It is almost like a small sports car - it has kick, you can rough it up a bit, the manual transmission gives it a sporty feel. I have many great memories with it and have taken it on quite a few adventures. Looks hilarious with a canoe on top!

Cheap on insurance, cheap on gas.

1995 Dodge Neon Sport 4dr 2.0 SOHC

Summary:

For five bills... not bad

Faults:

I bought this car for $500, drove it for a month or two, and then flipped it for $1900.

The only issues with the car were:

Oil leaks.

FM didn't work on radio.

Tape deck did not work period.

Exhaust system failed several times between cat and downpipe, causing minor CO poisoning to myself.

Exhaust cost $600 to fix because warranties covered repeat repairs - finally fixed before I sold it.

General Comments:

Slow, nice looking, but horribly slow with the three speed automatic.

Handling was decent, given the amount of kilometers on the car, and it parked easily.

Braking was marginal and even though the pads on the car were newer, pulsation and shimmy were often the result (I am aware the car had ABS, but there is no way it should kick in that indiscriminately)

It always started.

The aluminum wheels were also a nice touch.

And that is all I'm going to say about that.
