1996 Dodge Neon Sedan 1.8 Single Overhead Cam
Summary:
Average car for the price
Faults:
Oxygen sensors had to be replaced 6 times during the life of the car. Earliest Occurrence was at 67,000 miles.
Alternator replaced at 144,000 miles.
Air conditioner failed while under warranty (28,000 miles). Dealer replaced compresor and flushed the system.
General Comments:
This car went well in the snow, which is important here in the great Northeast.
I didn't like the steering wheel positioning, even with the tilt wheel, I never got comfortable with it.
The car was comfortable for one to three people, but anything upwards of three was too crowded.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I am pleased for the most part with my neon, but I would like to agree with several comments raised. I have also had problems with the following:
The electrical system is not particularly sturdy. The radio occasionally works as does the odometer, speedometer and gas gauge.
The oxygen sensor was shot about 3 years ago, but I replaced it and it has worked well.
I also have a problem with the moldy smell and rain or water leaking into the car.
The engine light has been on for years and several stores have been unable to determine why (Pep Boys, Merchants, and several local garages.)
On the positive side:
The gas mileage is about 35 miles per gallon highway. It is a heavy car and handles well in both rain and snow; though it is low to the ground so significant accumulation of snow will stop me.
To its credit, had the speedometer worked, the car would have about 160,000 miles on it.
Ultimately, I am looking to see if anyone has comments on repairing the car's electrical system.
