1999 Dodge Pickup 1500 SLT 4x4 5.9L
Summary:
A real truck capable of real truck work
Faults:
The intake manifold gasket blew at roughly 34,000 miles. It still ran great, but started consuming oil at an alarming rate.
Oil was weeping from the front crank seal so I had it replaced at 36,000 miles.
Oil was also weeping from the rear output shaft seal on the transfer case. Nothing serious, but I had it replaced under warranty.
General Comments:
Overall, I love this truck. It's been very reliable with only minor problems.
Power output is excellent, so long as you don't expect it to run like a sports car. Unlike the current Chevy and Ford engines, this engine is still a truck engine. In a truck, if you use it as a truck, horsepower is not the most important factor. Torque is the important thing and this engine makes plenty of it and does so at a low enough RPM to be useful.
Front seat space is roomy and comfortable. The rear seating is tight, but I never intended for anything other than 'stuff' and children to go back there.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
