1987 Dodge Raider 2.6L Gas

Summary:

Good all-around off road vehicle. Best going

Faults:

Needed Alternator at 125,000 miles.

Replaces Exhaust at 132,000 miles.

Rear U-Joints went out at 215,435 miles.

Water Pump and Timing Chain went out at 315,263 miles.

General Comments:

Probably the best 4-wheel drive vehicle I've ever owned. I've had Jeeps, Toyota Land Cruisers and a Chevy 4x4 pickup, but I'll take my ole Raider any day.

The only real fault I have to the vehicle is that it LIKES gas, and was a little top heavy around corners, but $1200 and John Baker Performance fixed the leaning problem.

1987 Dodge Raider 3.0 V6

Summary:

A great Sport Utility Vehicle

Faults:

The only thing that is wrong with the Sport Utility Vehicle is it eats oil like crazy, so I have to add oil a lot. A few minor dents as well.

General Comments:

The Raider is overall an awesome Sport Utility Vehicle, I have already taken it to the mountains where it was still snowing and it handled wonderful. It also has awesome four wheel drive capability. It handles very well on the paved roads as well. Has great headroom too, which you don't find in most newer Sport Utility Vehicles, except maybe Land Rover.

1987 Dodge Raider 2.6L

Summary:

Look out Blazer, here comes the Raider and it can't be stopped

Faults:

Nothing, it's the ultimate 4x4.

General Comments:

This beast is the most reliable, most powerful, destructive, everlasting, off-roading beast. It drives right over the tops of Blazers, and out performs Hummer's off-roading ability. The most reliable 4x4 that was ever created by any manufacturer. It's not any Nascar, but when it comes to off-roading look out Blazer, here comes the RAIDER!

1989 Dodge Raider 3.0 V6

Summary:

I wouldn't drive anything else - a great rig!!

Faults:

I had to get new shocks when I first got it.

The water pump was replaced at 175,000 miles.

My incline-o-meter leaked down into my dash and I had to replace the defrost cable.

The fan belt was replaced at 150,000 miles.

General Comments:

I hit a deer going 80 MPH in my Raider and it only made a dent in my front bumper. I have been rear ended and have hit a couple other things, and not a scratch. Tough enough for any situation.

The Raider is an awesome rally truck, the 4 wheel drive works excellently.

This rig has lots of power and I have no problems accelerating or going up hills. The only problem is you have to slow down for those corners - a bit tipsy, a very minor inconvenience.

Definitely not made to haul a bunch of people - 4 people barely fit in there and they usually have a heck of a time trying to get into the back seat.

I love my Raider! My next car is either going to be another Raider or the 4 door Montero.

1988 Dodge Raider 2.6 L I4

Summary:

A really good off-road vehicle, sluggish on the road, but that's to be expected

Faults:

The head gasket blew at 187,000 miles.

General Comments:

This 4x4 kicks ass.

I out 4x4 any Jeep Wrangler any day, anytime, especially in Moab. The jeeps needed 4-low to get up Elephant Hill in Canyon-lands National Park, I was in 4-high with the stock 35x10.5 tires. They had a 4 inch lift and 35x12 tires. Can we say Ha Ha?

1989 Dodge Raider 3.0 Liter

Summary:

A reliable, rugged vehicle

Faults:

Actually, very little has gone wrong. The fuel pump required replacement about 127,000 miles.

The starter was rebuilt near 198,000 miles.

A water leak required the replacement of the lower plenum gasket at 211,000 miles. Also, replaced the water pump just for surety.

And the only major item to fail was the transmission input shaft bearing that failed recently at 231,000.

General Comments:

A very reliable vehicle that consistently outperforms the Ford SUVs that I own or owned.

The Raider performs well off-road in the most tortuous environments (Black Bear, Imogene, Mosquito, Schofield, Hermit Passes, Colorado).

Snow is no impediment to this vehicle.

It rides a little better than a hay wagon, but it is designed for off-road performance.

1988 Dodge Raider 2.6 L

Summary:

This car is a tank!

Faults:

There have been no major problems with the car, just the usual maintenance that any car would need.

General Comments:

This car is a beast on and off the road.

It has such character and presence on the road.
