Faults:

When I first got it, two weeks later the transmission gears ripped out.

Blew a head-gasket at 185,320 miles.

Had to replace the starter at 125,000 miles.

General Comments:

This car is great off road.

The Dodge Raider is very reliable and with good snow tires will go anytime in the winter.

However, I have three children, and the two door version is a little cramped for a family of five.

One of the best cars I have ever owned, and I have owned over 6 cars in ten years.

The bumpers aren't plastic they are actually metal.

Interior holds up extremely well.

The only real problem I have with the Raider is the fact that it is top heavy and any gusts of winds could flip it over quickly.

Faults:

Carburetor went out, costing a pretty penny to replace.

Previous owner had to replace engine when working on carburetor, leaking anti-freeze into the engine.

General Comments:

For 200,000+ this vehicle has been running great.

It is a great Off-Road vehicle.

While good for around town driving it is not meant for highway driving (it has trouble getting up to 70-85mph).

One of the toughest little trucks I have driven.

A real head turner, often mistaken for a Land Rover Defender 90 or older Range Rover.

A little underpowered and expensive to fix, but well worth it all.

Faults:

Let me just say that not a single thing went wrong with this vehicle for 13 years.

13 years after buying it, several costly things went wrong, but these were all caused by my own stupidity:

1. Alternator went.

2. Fan belt went.

3. Carburetor replaced.

4. Belts all replaced.

5. Major engine repairs.

6. Entire exhaust system replaced.

7. Catalytic converter replaced.

General Comments:

I bought this vehicle out-of-state for a cheap price to haul my boat with. I ended up using it nearly everyday, including offroading in it frequently.

Never had to take it to the garage (except regular maintenance) in 12 years.

At year 12 of ownership (2000), I stopped using it altogether and let in sit in my driveway... for 2 years. Of course, when I went to start it up in 2002, it wouldn't fire. Eventually had it towed to a garage, where they got it running again.

However, because I had let it sit for so long it had rusted underneath it and under the hood... this is when I started to do all the repairs I mentioned above.

It is still going strong today, and haven't had anything else go wrong with it since I got it repaired a year ago!

Faults:

My starter went out first, very early. I don't remember the mileage.

My radiator and heater needed replacement at 100,000 miles.

Started leaking oil early, I don't remember mileage. It still leaks oil at the gaskets, but it doesn't burn any oil.

Electric door locks started to fail at 155,000 miles.

A few minor occurences, but mostly normal wear & tear.

General Comments:

This is a good running vehicle.

It performs well in Alaska.

It handles well, but it is a little top-heavy.

Faults:

Most of the 88 Raiders eventually blew their head gaskets, mine twice. The first time it cost $680.00. Second time, I did not get it fixed. Replaced fuel filter, oxygen sensor. The original spare tire gave me about 100 miles until all the tread fell off.

General Comments:

4x4 wise, it's a tank.

I payed $2300 for it, and it lasted its money worth. The acceleration was aweful, the top speed was awful, but if you put it in the mud, you will be surprised, the truck is built for off-road. If the head gasket did not blow, the car was a perfect car for me. After it blew I sold it for $350, its ashame it did.
