General Comments:

I have been a professional mechanic since 1982. I keep my vehicles well maintained. This one, I cannot keep up with.

A huge disappointment. It's a beautiful truck to look at. Rides and handles like a dream. Too bad I can't trust it.

My '88 Bronco was in better mechanical condition at 100,000 miles. than this truck was at 45,000.

I WILL be trading this truck next week when the most current problems are corrected. Back to Fords for me, never to stray again!

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 club cab with 56,000 miles on it. I agree with your comment that it is a very good looking truck and rides like a dream. I also agree with your comment on the dash pad. Mine began to crack at 55,500 for no reason and now looks like a spider web. It's obviously a defect in material, but I guess we live with what we have.

2000 Dodge Ram Pickup SLT Quad Cab 6.9L Cummins turbo diesel

Summary:

High priced vehicle, but an underlying great value

Faults:

The engine light came on repeatedly with in the first 100 miles of operation. This was taken care of after much hassle with the dealer and Chrysler. An engineer was assigned to my specific case and the problem was solved after about 2 weeks.

With in the first 10,000 miles the air conditioner leaked out all of the refrigerant from a section of tube that had wore a hole due to vibration. The warranty covered this item and was repaired.

At approx. 30,000 miles I received a recall notice and took my truck in to the dealer. After the dealer had my truck for 4 business days and a weekend. I was told that the recall did not apply to my vehicle. I blame Chrysler and the dealer for the inconvenience.

The brakes on this vehicle have lasted 60,000 miles before being replaced. I only had to replace the pads and not the rotors. I would call this a miracle due to the fact that I tow quite often with this vehicle.

Some small cosmetic things have occurred with interior items on the truck, but it is still quite "livable".

General Comments:

This vehicle has pleased me very much as I get great fuel economy and good torque for towing and pulling big loads.

I have had no major problems with the vehicle and would definitely recommend the vehicle for someone who needs dependable work horse.

My truck was a little on the expensive side, but well worth it to me. It has many bells and whistles that I paid for that I rarely need. (mirror defrosters on a California vehicle)

If you received a recall notice, that would mean the recall DID apply to your truck.

Summary:

Powerful reliability

Faults:

Transmission grinds occasionally, when going into reverse.

General Comments:

The engine is incredibly powerful.

The ride is smooth and quiet.

She can take quite a beating, and still go on.

She handles rather well for a vehicle of her size, let alone a truck.

2000 Dodge Ram Pickup SLT 5.2 Liter V8

Summary:

A decent truck with a poor transmission

Faults:

The ABS sensor on the rear end needed to be replaced at 50k miles.

The factory tires needed to be replaced at 35k miles.

The auto transmission began to slip between shifts 2 and 3 at 65k miles even though I ordered the heavy duty tow package with the transmission cooler. I never towed anything and had the transmission serviced per recommended maintenance schedule. The transmission now needs to be rebuilt.

General Comments:

I had been somewhat pleased with this truck until the transmission and ABS problem began. I have been a loyal dodge owner, but after the problems I had with this truck I am looking at other makes for my next purchase.
