2001 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 Off Road Sport 4X4 5.2 Magnum V8

Summary:

My second new Ram pickup, says it all!

Faults:

Two weeks after delivery I had a bad speed sensor on a rear wheel that caused the truck to jerk around at highway speeds.

Had a power steering leak at one of the connectors at the same time.

General Comments:

Outside of the minor problems listed above, this truck has been dependable.

Very roomy and comfortable.

Handles well, even with oversize tires.

A general pleasure to drive.

2001 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 SLT 5.2L

Summary:

Avoid Dodge Ram like the plague!

Faults:

This truck idles so poorly on cold starts that it often stalls.

Until the truck warms up, it is sluggish and "punchy".

The transmission requires a rebuild after the truck is only three months old. Several of its bearings are shot already!

The parking brake light won't turn off.

The driver side window "clunks" when doing down.

General Comments:

This truck is quite possibly the biggest piece of junk ever made. It has been in the shop seven times in the 3-4 months that I have owned it!!!

The power is nice once the truck warms up, but until then it is pathetic.

The stalling is getting dangerous. Especially when it does on a highway.

Dodge has told me that they cannot fix the idling and stalling problem and that it is "characteristic of this truck". They said (and I quote) "You'll just have to learn to live with the erratic idle. It doesn't stall that often, so I wouldn't worry about it".

Ram was once a great truck. Things change. I know a slew of other '99-'01 Ram owners whose trucks have fallen apart. I can't say this enough, "Avoid Dodge Ram"!!

I have a 95 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 and it's the best vehicle I've ever owned. To be honest it runs better than my 2000 F-250 work truck. The Ram's 360 has 93000 miles on it and still runs like new. And the body is still in excellent condition. I love my Dodge.

2001 Dodge Ram Pickup SLT 5.3 gasoline

Summary:

This macho looking truck is a sheep in wolf's clothing (weak)

Faults:

The truck idles rough when I first crank it. If I take off immediately after cranking it, it is very sluggish.

The best highway mileage I have gotten is 15 MPG.

The driver's side door leaked during a rain shower (the water channel at the top of the door was put on upside-down).

General Comments:

I don't know if there is something wrong with this engine, but it is no doubt the weakest 8 cylinder engine I have ever owned. It feels like I am pulling a loaded trailer all the time. If I am traveling on a highway with medium size hills and I am using the cruise control, the transmission is in and out of lower gears to keep my speed up. I can't believe that I have just bought such a weak truck and now I am stuck with it.

I would like to say to all the people who own a Dodge and don't like it, it is most likely because it is a dud. One of the main reasons that you hear about bad Dodge's is because most people say how good theirs is and how much they love it, and then someone goes and gets one, and hates is because they got a lemon, and now they won't buy another Dodge. Well, I can't tell you how many lemon Chevy's and Fords that I have owned, and how many people that I know have owned. Yes, Dodge produces a few duds here and there, but a whole lot less than Chevy and Ford do. Also, someone was complaining about their truck running rough when they start it when its cold, I would like to say that most every vehicle out there does, because its cold. Someone ought to let that boy drive a carberated engine and then see what he thinks about starting and driving his truck in cold weather.

How did the grille rust? It's chromed plastic.
