2004 Dodge Ram Pickup Sport w/Hemi

Summary:

Great truck, so far!

Faults:

Hm, let's see. I bought this truck for my husband and love the looks of it. Red, with the ram air, ground effects and the Hemi. All I can say, thank god for the warranty.

1) Great for towing our boat. Can't even feel it. Not like our 1998 Dodge Ram p/u

2) Turn many heads with the look.

3) Comfy ride, especially on long trips.

4) Handles excellent.

5) Roomy for 6 passengers.

6) Serious power.

1) Gas guzzler, which I was sort of prepared for.

2) Paint started chipping off of the ground effects. Dealer did repaint it.

3) At a stop light, truck started to rev up, and no response with the gas pedal.

6) Oil leak

7) Not crazy about all the "plastic" interior.

So far nothing too major and still under warranty. Would buy another one.

Any comments on the Durango? Got a Isuzu Rodeo, that is starting to cost me a fortune to repair. Love the Rodeo, but at the mercy of the dealership mechanics... :- (

General Comments:

Great looking truck for the price. Sticker at $35K, bought it for $18K, BRAND NEW!!! Very quick.

2004 Dodge Ram Pickup SLT 4X4 2.5 diesel

Summary:

I love this truck!

Faults:

The mechanism to lower the spare tire either was never installed or broke completely at some point.

The front passenger window is making a thumping sound when lowering.

Dark Blue paint scratches easily, but we should have known that.

General Comments:

Bought it new and have put 47K on it in the past two years, mostly on road trips across the country.

It's very comfortable and roomy, and it drives "smaller" than it is. It has a great turning-radius. I usually back into parking spaces, and it's very easy to see what I'm doing (although I don't always back up far enough). The rear seats are 60/40 split, roomy and fold up for lots of cargo space.

The black leather interior is great and easy to clean.

Very little road noise. A bit bouncy on rough roads, but...it's a truck.

The AC is awesome! It can be 110 here in Vegas and it never fails!

We towed a 20-ft car-hauler trailer (with car etc inside) from NC to NV and it pulled and handled very well.

Have taken it through the mountains of Colorado several times - no problem up hills; the cruise control does its job quite nicely. The 4-wheel drive has been ops-tested in the snow and I have felt very secure.

Mileage is about 18 on the highway, not towing. City is maybe 15.

We've had no trouble other than the spare tire mechanism. We did not find this out, of course, until we had a flat. Thank goodness it was in the driveway at the time, because there was no way to lower the spare. They had to cut it off at the dealership - after assuming that I just didn't know how to change a flat! I said, "Please demonstrate it for me!" and then they realized there was actually a problem. They had to replace the entire mechanism (under warranty).

Still drives, handles and feels almost like new. It's supposed to be my husband's vehicle, but I think I drive it more than he does!

2004 Dodge Ram Pickup SLT Hemi

Summary:

EXCELLENT!

Faults:

Windshield wiper motor failure after only 200 miles.

General Comments:

Truck is very comfortable for our family of 4 (quad cab). Tons of storage room under back seats.

Handles VERY well for a bigger truck.

TONS of power.

Pretty good gas mileage. We get around 17 mpg going 70 mph and even better going about 60 mph.

Is this the one that shuts down 4 cylinders while cruising? Otherwise, I don't see how it can have tons of power and be a hemi WHILE also getting 17mpg. I don't think so, especially with the weight the quad cab adds.

Just thought I'd say that I own an '04 truck with the Hemi (which, in '04 does not have the multi-displacement engine) and on the highway/interstate I get 16 or 17 mpg. The Hemi does a great job of harnessing a lot of power without sacrificing a ton of gas mileage (relative, obviously).

Well, one auto magazine got 8 mpg with the hemi and another got 10 mpg.

You must be heading downhill with your foot of the gas to achieve those figures.

Wow, 8/10 is terrible for the Hemi. They must be beating it pretty hard to get those figures. In my 04 Quad cab 4WD, I get about 10 mpg on the highway when pulling a loaded horse trailer; without the load, realistically 16 mpg on the highway at 75 mph and probably around 13 in the city as my average is usually between 14 and 15. I have no doubt that the user above achieves 17 on the highway. Just another's insight here attempting to give my truthful depiction of my experience.

I can get 20mpg if I cruise at 50mph in my 04 Quad Cab Hemi.
