2004 Dodge Stratus R/T 3.0 V6

Summary:

Great bang for the buck!

Faults:

Not too many problems.

Driver's side seat belt has become weak when returning to its fixed position after use.

Headlamps have the typical UV fog damage that all cars get now.

The clear coat on the car has been compromised, which is a problem on all the cars painted black.

General Comments:

I love this car. Best bang for your buck with regard to performance in this car category. Pretty quick acceleration when mated to the 5 speed trans.

The handling is good, but the car does get ass-y when pushed hard through a corner. I am going to try stiffer rear shock spring combo to help keep things settled in the back.

The interior has held up well, with no issues other than the seat belt retraction being weak as the car gets older.

I love this car, and purchased it for a fun 3rd car that gets great gas mileage. I am averaging 28 MPG with mixed driving, which is way better that the 16.5 MPG on my 2002 Dodge Dakota.

I highly recommend this car.

2004 Dodge Stratus Coupe 4 cylinder

Summary:

Great car. I miss it

Faults:

General tire and brake maintenance. That is all.

General Comments:

It was the Stratus Coupe -- the styling was very sexy. The seats were comfortable, but headroom was not very good for taller people (sunroof affected this). The car was extremely reliable. With the 4 cyl., it got pretty good gas mileage. It drove and handled smoothly. It was smooth and quiet on the highway. The car sits very low to the ground.

It is a very safe car. It saved my life in a head-on collision with a Ford Explorer. I walked away with no injuries!

2004 Dodge Stratus SXT 2.4 4 cylinder

Summary:

Best car I've owned

Faults:

Replaced outer tie rod ends at about 100K.

Had to replace the lateral links at 125K.

I also did have to do 4 brake jobs.

General Comments:

This was the first brand new car that I have ever owned, and I have been very happy with it. My previous car was a 2002 Olds Alero that started falling apart around 50K, so I was happy to end up with this car and not have any issues.

This car has everything I need. Enough room for my family of 4 and our luggage. Is comfortable on long trips. I've driven this car from Texas to NYC and to Irvine CA, and to Florida numerous times and has performed great. I have the 2.4 engine, and although it could maybe use a little bit more power, it regularly gets 30 mpg. In most situations, this engine is definitely adequate.

The interior is nice, laid out well. The silver trim looks good. The white gauges look nice. I did however, like the interior of my Alero a little better. It seemed more "luxurious." Otherwise, the Stratus interior has held up nicely with heavy use and doesn't rattle or squeak, whereas the Olds had dash pieces coming off and rattled terribly.

This car looks sharp with the Navy Blue paint, alloy wheels, and tinted windows.

The Dodge dealer has been very pleasant to deal with.

Besides a few small things, I have only performed regular maintenance on this car, and it still runs great at 174K. I fully expect to see 200K+ miles on this car.

Would definitely buy again. Will replace this car with either an Avenger or Charger when the time comes.

2004 Dodge Stratus R/T Coupe 3.0 Liter V6

Summary:

Sporty reliable 6 cylinder inexpensive coupe

Faults:

Nothing whatsoever. I installed a cold air intake, and a performance exhaust system that tripped the check engine light to go off. I resett the computer, and that was the end of that. No other mechanical, or technical problems whatsoever.

General Comments:

Very sporty.

Handles tightly and excellently.

Engine/Transmission really only has a lot of top end power. Off the line the car is a bit sluggish with the automatic transmission. Once it gets going you can stretch it out all the way up to 140 M.P.H.

The manual transmission is a lot more powerful and faster than the automatic. If you can drive a manual transmission, I would highly recommend you get this car in a manual transmission. You'll notice a ton of difference in performance. The 5 speed makes the car feel like you are driving a Camaro Z28, or a Mustang GT. It's amazing just what a manual transmission can do to a car.

Overall a nice car that is sporty, handles well, and is mechanically sound from my experience.

Cons:

The car is a bit too heavy, and could use a turbocharger, or a supercharger to pull it faster. The heaviness makes the car sometimes appear to be sluggish.
