1995 Ford Aspire Base 1.3 Litre

Summary:

Fun to beat, cheap and slow

Faults:

Needed new brakes, tires, and the check engine light still plays games.

Something is wrong causing an extremely low idle and stalling when the air conditioning is on.

Tire blowout nearly killed me but I suppose that isn't related to the car as much as my thin wallet.

General Comments:

I bought this car to replace my 1988 Chevrolet Beretta GT which was broadsided by an evil woman.

I can't seem to get rid of this car due to it's ultra-strong reliability, gas mileage, not to mention the hatchback sounds great with the subwoofer <grin>.

This car is slow, slow, slow... UNLESS you know how to drive. I have a 5 speed and if you rev that engine to its limits you can go. When I first got the car going up a 12% grade over two miles I eventually fell to 37 MPH. Now I can manage the hill at 55 or so if I get a good running start and let it wind out in third.

I suppose it's a good car for someone like me living in the city, can't afford much. Parking is a breeze :)

Very hard to find in the USA, but you should drive a hydropneumatic Citroen and then have a tire blowout.... The car almost reacts normally, you can steer and brake to a safe stop, truly amazing!!!

Good luck finding a non rusted out, dead Citroen with that system.

1995 Ford Aspire 4 cylinder

Summary:

A reliable, ugly, nasty car

Faults:

* CV joints went out in the 2 months that I have had the car.

* Thumping noise when I gradually press the brakes.

* DENT PRONE!! If you just touch the car then there's a dent.

General Comments:

This is my 2nd car and I have to say I really need to get another car. It is a good car for a beginner driver. No real problems besides the CV joints giving out so easily.

1995 Ford Aspire 4 cylinder

Summary:

A great little easter egg

Faults:

Nothing until I wrecked it.

It only shifts hard. You have to know how to drive it instead of forcing your foot on the gas pedal. It also has a slow take off but then it picks up and it will slap a Geo Metro in the face.

General Comments:

The Aspire is a great car! It's a simple car that's pretty fast. I can make a U-turn almost anywhere.

1995 Ford Aspire Base 1.3 litre four-cylinder

Summary:

Buy at your own risk

Faults:

Everthing. You name it.

General Comments:

At first it seems like a cool car. It looks really sleek and phat. The interior is really nicely styled and easy to use. There's tons of room for everybody for such a small car. The fuel economy is great (29 mpg in LA). It's loaded with tons of features not found on Metros, Tercels, or Accents.

But the car's performance sucks. It's slower than my 3-cylinder Metro!!!! The automatic tranny is jerky and shifts at really weird spots. It struggles up hills that a Metro could breeze up. Handling is really good though. It's hard to make the tyres squeal.

And reliability has been disgusting. I bought the car to replace my old and very basic Metro that has 106,000 miles. It had only 51,000 miles but has been in the shop numerous times. Now I'm driving the Metro because the Ford's getting more repairs. I was going to sell the Geo but the Aspire's going in the classifieds as soon as I get it back. I would rather give up the Ford's luxuries and go for the Metro's reliability and basic nature. So long Ford, nice knowing you!!!!!!!
