1982 Ford Bronco Lariet inline 6 to a 351m

Summary:

Ford will never make another SUV as respectable as the Bronco

General Comments:

I had no true problems with my Bronco. I used and abused the in-line 6 that originally came in it. I replaced it however; I put a 351m in it from my '79 when I totaled it. It has to be the runninest vehicle I have ever owned. The other day, I raced one of my friends in his Grand-Am and we were neck and neck until I hit 3rd. I ran in second until I hit 80mph. It also handles better and turns sharper than any full-sized truck or SUV I have ever ridden in - that is, for its year.

With the exception of the oil leaks, lack of A/C, and the really bad gas mileage, it has to be the best vehicle I have owned... it and the '79 Bronco are killer off-road vehicles.

1982 Ford Bronco Base 300 Straight Six

Summary:

Nickel and dime you to death

Faults:

Where should I start! Everything on this Bronco has been replaced or upgraded by me. Engine spun a bearing at 176000, seats were shredded, leaked oil from almost every gasket on the engine, springs and shocks were worn, hubs were shot, every brake component was replaced by me.

General Comments:

If you want a good mud truck or tow rig then get a Bronco. Otherwise they are pretty much worthless. Mine gets piss poor mileage for a 6 cylinder and drives like a dump truck. Engine noise is almost unbearable because of the lack of Overdrive. Driving on the freeway is taking your life into your own hands.

Actually, I bought it because my dad's 1970 Bronco runs like a champ with well over 200,000 miles. I have spent more money keeping the Bronco in shape than I have restoring my 1973 Dodge Charger.

I can't believe that this guy is outraged that his 25-year-old beater spun a bearing at 176,000 miles! He should be proud that he got his use out of a cheap car. There is no such thing as being nickel and dimed to death. Maybe he would rather just write the $450 check every month for a car payment.
