1985 Ford Bronco II Eddie Bauer 4x4 2.8 liter V6

Summary:

The cheapest and one of the best I've bought

Faults:

The transmission was bad when I bought it, but got it fixed for cheap and it was easy to install.

General Comments:

Love it. It starts up every time on less than a full turn of the starter. 4wd is more than plenty for a daily driver/weekend warrior. Don't really have anything bad to say about the truck.

1985 Ford Bronco II XLT 2.8L

Summary:

The ugly duckling. It may be rusty, but it runs better than most newer cars

Faults:

Headliner falling down.

Driver seat a little twisted and ripped.

Engine valve noise, probably from driving 388,000 KMs.

Fenders and rear quarters rusted as well as other rust spots and peeling paint.

Speakers blown, but still work OK.

Valve cover leak and minor power steering hose leak.

General Comments:

Bought the truck for $500 and drove it 143 KMs home, and was surprised at how well it was running, and how well it rode for being a rusted cheap Bronco II.

The body is ugly brown on tan with a shade of rust, but still solid. Most of it is just surface rust.

4X4 works great, the manual transmission shifts good, and the clutch seems to be fine.

Heat works amazingly well, and surprisingly so does the A/C.

Handles bumps really well, and you do feel them, but you feel them in most true 4x4 offroad vehicles.

Carburated engine starts up quick, like as soon as the key hits the start position, it's running, and very quiet and smooth, you can barely hear or feel the engine running except for the minor valve tick.

I definitely need to put in a tachometer in it so I know it's running, because it's so quiet that every time you get to a stop sign or traffic lights and push the clutch in, everything is quiet and it seems like the engine stalled, but it's still running quiet and smooth.

I am very happy with this vehicle so far, even though it has 388,000 KMs. I would have no problem fixing up the body a little bit to get rid of most of the rust, and if I ever had to replace the engine or transmission, I would, but the way it seems right now, I almost think it would last another 300,000 KMs.

1985 Ford Bronco II

Summary:

One of the great ones

Faults:

Nothing but wear and tear.

General Comments:

I love my Bronco II. I drive it all the time.

I put a new engine in it, but old one will still run.

I have started to restore it, cause I love it that much.

It is a great ride and I'm proud to drive it.

I'm right there with you! I have a 1985 B2 and the engine was rebuilt at 175,000 miles. She has over 250,000 miles on her and still going strong!! I love this thing! :)

1985 Ford Bronco II

Summary:

My idea of a perfect little ride

Faults:

My transmission passed away at 130,000 miles. I did not use a reputable auto mechanic so within 4 months I had to install another one.

There was a ticking under the hood from day one which never caused any problems.

General Comments:

Reliable in good or bad weather.

Economical to run.

Even though not garaged, she had only one small rust spot after almost 20 years of service.

Comfortable in town or on trips.

Always classy looking - all black and chrome with a red interior. The spare tire was inside.

If I had to do it again, I would buy it again.

1985 Ford Bronco II

Summary:

It is sturdy and bumpy

Faults:

Clutch went out and a/c.

General Comments:

This Ford is tough. I've gone through two other cars since I got this Bronco. This is the only older car that keeps running. Not very comfortable, though. great for four wheeling in the desert, though.

1985 Ford Bronco II 2.8L

Summary:

I like it..

Faults:

Blown engine. Replaced with rebuilt.

Headliner shot. Replaced with material found locally. Not a hard job.

Transmission uses (looses) about one quart a month.

Replaced park/neutral sensor switch.

Engine running hot. Tried most normal fixes. Thermostat OK. Flush radiator OK. etc. Finally cured problem by replacing fan with an aftermarket flex fan custom mounted to the old fan clutch. Works great now.

General Comments:

Great little run-about if you are the handyman type. Turns on a dime.

Requires a lot of minor fixes. Better have a good tool box.

Fords emission control system sensors and switches died before I bought it. Had to repair/replace some and bypass others.

Carburetor is drawback.
