1992 Ford Crown Victoria Base 4.6L V8
Summary:
Wow, what an awesome, reliable deal of a car... get one!
Faults:
The engine was not running when I purchased the car, as it had thrown a rod through the block while the previous owner tried to start it one morning.
The front brake rotors are warped, but I will be upgrading to 1998+ brakes shortly.
The tailpipe is hitting the rear control arm, but this is a result of poor installation of a replacement muffler.
The padding in the front seats is badly compressed, but the previous owners were not small people.
The air conditioning still blows cold, and the heater blows hot in the winter.
General Comments:
The car initially cost $1500 (Canadian$$$) including a brand new windshield, and I bought a complete used engine for $1600. I swapped engines in about 8 hours, and had a good runner.
I initially intended to sell the car after a short while for a profit, but after driving it, towing a trailer with it, and finding out we have a baby on the way, there is no way it is leaving the family. 20+ mpg highway while towing in the mountains, awesome acceleration once moving, and everyone thinks it's a cop car.
I have replaced the stock 15" wheels and tires with 1999+ 16" police-spec wheels and tires; wow, what a difference in handling! It actually goes where I steer it!
Next up, 5.4l V8, dual exhausts, police-spec shocks, limited slip differential...
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
