Faults:

Original radio was replaced under warranty due to a feature that never worked.

Had a nail in the tire once.

General Comments:

I've had this car for about 18 months now, and have really had no reliability issues worth mentioning. I only brought up the nail in the tire, just so I'd have something to put down.

The radio issue was something to do with one of the features that did not work, and to be quite honest, I forget which feature it was. The dealer I got it from knew about it, and replaced the radio before I took delivery of the vehicle. I'll try and cover most of my experience here, in case anyone out there is considering purchasing an Edge.

I gave it a 9 in the performance category, because I find the thing to actually be surprisingly fast, considering its girth. I've grown out of driving the beans out of vehicles quite some time ago, so when a colleague of mine initially asked me if it was 'fast', I honestly had no idea. Then the day finally came when I had to pass someone on a 2 lane stretch of highway. Suffice it to say, I was actually really surprised how much power the V6 actually had. The Edge is not a small vehicle, so I thought it would be kind of a dog with such a small motor.

Onto comfort. I rated it as I did, because I feel that the ride is a bit rough on 'less than perfect' road surfaces. I truly think that this problem is likely due to the fact that mine is equipped with 20 inch rims and low profile tires. Versions with 18 inch rims likely have a much better ride. The rims sure do add some bling to it, so I don't mind the sacrifice. However, the seats are very comfortable, and I have yet to hear anyone complain about space. One thing that I have found as a long term owner is that the vehicle is difficult to parallel park. The visibility is not great, and due to its size and shape, seeing vehicles behind you can be very difficult in tighter spaces. You definitely don't want to be bouncing off curbs either if you value the aesthetics of your wheels.

I rated the running costs at what I did mostly due to fuel consumption. Although it is not so bad that you don't want to drive it, it is nowhere near what they advertise on the commercials. I saw one that claimed 9.9 litres/100kms, and I have to say that I have never seen that day. The Edge has yet to let me down, but being a higher end vehicle, one can expect that long term maintenance costs would be higher. I think 6/10 is probably a realistic figure.

Overall, I am still happy with the Edge in spite of some of these things that I have droned on about. Just trying to give the next guy an idea of what to expect if they are looking at one. I had an Accord before this vehicle, it was a very reliable car also, but I live in Manitoba Canada, and in my opinion, the Honda was too cold, and I just got sick of the way smaller cars handle in inclement weather.

Faults:

- Front brake pads and rotor resurfacing at 18,000 miles under warranty.

- 10,000 miles later I am having the same problem as I did before, brakes are squeaking constantly while driving.

Other than small brake issues, I have had absolutely no problems with this car.

General Comments:

Overall I have been satisfied with the Edge.

The thing I like most is how comfortable this car feels when driving, the seats are great.

The acceleration is okay, not what you would expect from the 260 hp engine. As for mpg, I drive this car 60 miles round trip to work, 90% highway driving and I average 17 - 18 mpg. Not exactly the 24 mpg on the window sticker.

I've driven full size trucks that handle better than this... Although it is very easy to maneuver in traffic and parking lots.

I live in the snow belt, and let's just say I've gotten the Edge stuck a few times. Not exactly what I would expect from an AWD SUV, but it does handle fairly decent in the snow.

My major gripe with the car is the lack of utility; if you need to pick up some wood and need to have the trunk up, there are absolutely no tie down in the car or anything to even tie to on the trunk. Not very versatile, but then again it isn't a truck.
